so... heres the down side--- strat trem. strat pick up styles. fake klusons (just stuff and an ugly seam on the knobs... non fender style headstock..crappy pic.
Image
its a STAGG jazz/strat hybrid.. gloss tinted vintage neck (feels nicer than a few custom shops i have played!!! but could use dressed- fees like a good MIM fret quality.. the frets are about a blend of vintage style and USA sized. body is a 3 piece. im sure its basswood or a crappy alder but still really nice and you can barely even tell its a 3 piece- but the finish OVERALL is nicer than any MIA i have played. the nut is plastic but still nice. the dots are all pearloid. the saddles are a direct cross between those gross pressed steal ones and the block styles. the pic ups sound like a direct cross of MIMs and MIAs. pots are really smooth and zero noise. the pups are a little noisy(ground issue or lack of sheilding...

now its question time--- should i just put laces in it and call it a day (other than fret dressing down the line-nut swap and better tuners)

OOOOR

jazzmaster soap bars and leave the middle pick up swapped with an MIA or LACE with a tort cover (sleeknes) does it look like i have enough room to put jazzy soaps in it? i might consider white buckers in it if i can get away without using trim rings.

now for the nuts and bolts that im sure everyone is asking about....
this was at "the music farm" which isnt too far from here..... i saw it and wanted it for just the body alone (who cares if the neck sucked? id just find a lefty MIM 06 neck for it.) i traded my MARSHALL 15watt micro stack for it. they had it listed at 170. i went in to trade the amp in on a bass amp.... but i couldn t pass this one up!

this guitar is JUST as nice as any MIM 60s classics i have ever played. other than the cheaper tuners- i really cant tell the difference in quality... it doesnt have an MIA fretboard but it sure has a HIGH quality neck on it.

now in case you are wondering about other fender tones to give me advice on where to go with this--

MIA strat with red silver and gold laces. burst on maple.
MIM strat with usa pick ups. refin walnut stained body and rosewood board
MIA tele stock.
PRAIRIE CUSTOM GUITARS ash tele with broadcaster bridge and semour duncan mini bucker sd1 in the neck and a 4way (still being built- blend of a 52 hotrod and an MIA ash but with a contoured body)

i have always been madly inlove with jazzies, and i know that this does not have the subtle jazzy trem on it- but all my trems are locked anyways. (but i would like the mild jazzy trem some day....)

non fenders-
aria 335 copy with duncans.
epi sheraton with stock pick ups (for the time being)
epi sg with stock pick ups (for the time being)
univox mini 335 copy.
gibson les paul. stock-- forever.

what styles of music do i play? old smashing pumpkins type rock and blues- the guitar work of pearl jam is kinda my style.

Is that a new guitar?

It really has that late '60s Japanese guitar vibe going, especially the headstock.

I'll have to google Stagg to find out more.

Do you know where it's made?

yes its new... made in china and pretty ddarn good quality.. the pick ups actually sound pretty good.... its about like a nicer mexican fender.... its got 10s on it right now- i preffer nines.. im gonna change them and see how i like its tone.... i wanna put laces in it possibly...

not sure..... its still darn nice... the neck is touched by jesus... its poly but really feels more like a good classic series... not glassy and annoying like my epi sg's poly.

It had very microphonic pickups, would hold tune, very warped scratch plate, (worst af all) the neck pocket! I could see that the neck wasn't sitting flush to the body, upon taking the neck off it became apparent that the neck pocket looked like it had been chisled by hand whilst driving over a cobbled street! It was shockingly bumpy!

I only had the guitar for a year (this was 6 or so years ago) and for the money I could have bought a Squier (which I would still have today.)

The stagg did stay in tune for long enough to be used on the first recording I ever made with my old band. It's got a very distinctive thin sound.
When I look back - I was at the studio with my Stagg, my 10 watt Hohner solid state practice amp (re-covered in Fablon), borrowed delay pedal....those were the days!

That looks pretty sweet!
Gosh I love customizing guits.

I think the p-90's would look (and sound) nice.
Replae the tuners and make sure it's nice and insulated.
