Hi:

I've been wanting a Jazzmaster since the early 80s, but always played Tele's and a Strat or 2.
In the 90s I was married and my wife went through money faster than i could make it, I really wanted a MIJ Jazzmaster 10 or 11 years ago. But never had the cash for it.
I saw the new classic player series, My dealer here only has the Jag with Humbuckers.

My question is??? Have any of you tried one out and what did you think of it.

I'm the bass player for our band and buying a AV series is kind of more than I want to spend, since I only play guitar on 1- 3 songs a night.

The AV jazzmaster I tried was great but the bridge rattled, I was told to upgrade to a Mustang Bridge to stop that.
The classic player series has the Mustang bridge from the factory.
I have several MIM Fenders and have had them for many years and have gotten a lot of use out of them AND really like them

Thanks in advance

I've not played one.

I do know it has hotter pickups, sensible bridge, the tail peice is closer to the bridge for improved break angle, and also the neck is tilted at a steeper angle (for the same reason)

So that's the 3 jazzmaster problems all addressed in one custom shop designed guitar.

I want one.

No Local dealers have them but found a couple on EBAY with a Buy It Now price cheaper than I was quoted through guitar center, the bad thing is if I don't like it then I'm stuck with it.
Shouldn't be to big a problem, Had EXCELLENT luck with my many Fender's

This is my first post to this forum, so Hi everyone. I have purchased a Classic Player Jazzmaster, had it a couple of weeks. Beautiful guitar with wonderful tone. I just recently took up a guitar again after almost 40 years, grandson got me going. The bad thing is, unless you are a guitar tech or luthier, setting up is almost impossible. All the adjustments are covered by something. It looks like you have to take the guitar apart to adjust the truss rod and bridge. Saying this, it is very playable out of the box (at least mine is) even though I would like the action a lot lower than it is. My last guitar was an original Mosrite, before the ventures model and the action was so low, it seemed impossibe to most others. This Jazzmaster has given me back the tone that has been in my head all these years. I also bought a Gibson SG which I could set up easily. it of couse sound great but the neck is too flat for my taste.

Hi:

The first one I ordered was JUNK, warped neck PLUS a grounding issue, It was returned to Fender, The 2nd one I bought yesterday is EXCELLENT. The music store "Set it up" It was the worst set-up I've tried to play. Instead of rocking out when I got home, I had to dis-assemble it and adjust the neck and re-set the bridge. The neck from the music store had more relief on it than my P-Bass. Took me about 30 minutes to get everything right, It plays and sounds fantastic. 8)

A guitar I'd really like would be a Jazzmaster with the stock pickups, a 3-way, and a tone and volume control. Never liked all the switching, but the rest? Classic!

I was considering the Jazzmaster for playing jazz. Would it be a decent guitar for jazz if I used heavy strings?

That is what is really was designed for. I use the stock strings, roll off the treble on both the guitar and amp and off I go. I like the sound better than a "Jazz Guitar". Liveler and brighter. Of course I did learn and play a Mosrite way back when, so very much alike in tone. Give it a try, even a tele makes a good jazz guitar with medium output pu's.

I haven't played one yet, either. I think I prefer the original p/ups to the new ones, but I'm so glad they finally fixed the bridge problem . . . after 50 years. I wish they had more colors.

I have been walking past and drooling over a sunburst Classic Player Jazzmaster at my local Guitar Center since summer. I didn't get out to GC for their Black Friday sale but it had a nice discount during last weekend's sale. Resistance was futile after that and I traded a Blackout Tele and cash for it.

I'm glad I took the plunge. Jazzmasters have always intrigued me and this one looked, played and sounded great.
