Congratulations...you'll love it! Bummer about the finish being re-done (although it is pretty), but maybe that's why it is such a great price.

Enjoy!

Hi Greenscreener, welcome to the forum. No doubt the price was so low because of the refinish but having said that it appears to be a first rate job. The Starcaster was a great guitarand it's too bad that the production was so shortlived.Randy Bachman endorsed the Starcaster and I believe that's what he used for one of his best and jazziest solos on Blue Collar. I'm sure you won't regret your purchase,if you do I'll gladly take it off your hands lol.

I have never seen a more amazing Starcaster in my life.

I wonder, though, if Fender might be worried that the line of cheap-o guitars may have seriously damaged the Starcaster name now that the original is gaining awareness fast, preventing a reissue from being made.

The petition could be gaining traction. I don't remember which magazine I picked up this month, but there was a letter concerning it that was printed ...

And the new finish is pretty.

Hey Steve I see you made it, welcome to the forum.

Let me fill you guys in a little bit to what is going on. I was browsing through the Harmony Central forum when I came upon a post about bringing back the Starcaster by Foonkey Steve. I thought it was going to die pretty fast but he is a man on a mission and I could not believe how many people love this ax, dont forget HC is a neutral forum. So I went and told Mike Eldred about it and believe it or not Mike went over to the Harmony Central forum to check out what was going on and also signed the petition page-check the signatures.

So far Steve has almost 200 names on the petition and is hell bent on getting this done. I for one did not even know how many well known players play this ax so obviously there is something special about it and I want one.lol

There is a good size post in Mikes room on this and Mike said if there is enough interest in time there is no problem in them making these as they were made during the CBS years along with the Thinline Teles but they still have all the machinery in the shop.

I played semi-professionaly during the 70s & 80s and
it was my prefered guitar.

I have been looking for a semi-hollow body guitar for 2years now still haven't made a purchase. If fender still made these, my search would have been over a long time ago.

9 Starcasters on Ebay right now. The most I've ever seen. Not cheap, but not getting any cheaper either.

Got mine 4 years ago. Was actually at a pawnshop. Have taken it to 2 different places and both gave it a rating of excellent +

Was a lucky find. Spent 3k but worth every penny, and seems continues to escalate in value. Considered selling it due to buying a house, but was talked out of it by both shops and even more by the mrs. I'm sure I would regret it.

To be honest I have had several mid 70's American Bullets that were reasonalby priced and played great. They dont have the big punch strats have but played great, were light weight, and turned a few heads when they saw American Made. They are pretty much tele necks with music master bodies and tele pickups. Some have humbucklers for a heavier sound but never face your amp if you use one.

I enjoyed seeing all those starcasters. It would be great to see more youtube videos using starcasters, I really couldn't find many. If you know of any a pointer would be great.

I thought one of the problems of recreating a starcaster is that the pickup magnet material is not readily available anymore. Although I understand that hasn't stopped fender from sort or recreating guitars with similar pickups.

I've always been fascinated by these, and had a go on a natural finish one at a shop in Leicester back in the 80's, it was a little battered, and I recall they were asking £ 550 for it at the time.

I would love to own one, especially in sunburst, but the prices now, phew !

There seems to be a lot of re-issuing by Fender of the various 70's hybrid Tele designs lately and a resurgence of interest in the period and the wide range humbuckers etc, I've noted a few UK guitar bands using vintage Starcasters too.

Isn't this a logical choice for a re-issue .. even if Fender USA wouldn't, I'm sure Fender Japan would do a great job of replicating it ?
