Thanks Mr Bill. I know I didn't dream it!

One doesn't see Starcasters very often. It's a noteworthy event when one does! I sure wish I had bought one (at least one) years ago.

I picked one up on e-bay a year and a half ago. Had searched for years and was beaten out few times, which actually was a blessing. Was a little spendy but an art job covered it. $3100 made me the second owner of a dead mint highly flamed, natural finish, beauty. Original strap, cloth, owner's manual and sales receipt included. A month later saw two more go for $4700. They are definitely amazing to play and the tone possibilities incredible. I play it through a Gibson GA-5 Les Paul Jr. amp.

I've been lusting after one of the these for years. I'm a huge fan of wide-range humbuckers and when I saw one for the first time I thought it was the coolest guitar I'd ever seen. 3 years ago I saw one on E-bay for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500. Money was tight at the time, and I said to myself "I'll find another one later in the year". Turns out after that I never saw one for less than $3K! I still think about that on a pretty regular basis, or at least when it comes up in conversation. Another cool "Starcaster band" to check out is 'The Long Winters'. A reissue would kill, no doubt.

I have a Starcaster, given to me by my grandfather who bought it it 1975. I'd sell my kids before I sell it, but does anyone have any idea how many were produced? I know it was just in production for 3 years, and with the poor reception there can't have been that many.

I bought one about 25 years ago from someone who needed some rent money, been holding on tight ever since. Its a beautiful guitar, mint condition, a joy to own and play.

My dad's got a Starcaster that his parents bought him for his birthday in the 1970's. I've played it a few times and it's sweet. I've never done any research on it, but I started looking around and realized how rare it is. It was only manufactured from the mid 1970's to early 1980's.

I have been searching years for one! Nothing :x Whenever I do a search for Fender Starcaster, it's always that POS chinese starter crap. I'd like to own one of each of the guitars Fender made but that one is hard to find.

If my memory serves me correctly Randy Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive endorsed the Starcaster in the mid 70s.I can vaguely recall seeing the ad on the back cover of several issues of Guitar Player back then.I'll have to look through my old issues and try to find it.

Hello Raderiohead,

I saw those on ebay, not inexpensive anymore.
Here is a photo from the last guitar show.
I wonder if he'll be toting it to the show next month.

Cheers.

Mr. Bill

One thing to think about is they are not going to get cheaper. Whatever you find and decide to buy, consider that it is also an investment. The nicer it is and higher you pay now will be worth it. I lucked out 2 years ago, $3100 and barely even a mark on the pick guard. Will have to figure out how to load pics on this site sometime.

Maybe, maybe not--but even if the overall trend is upward--will that keep up with inflation.

But yeah, if you can afford one, and find one for sale which is authentic/real/genuine/not a fake and it's in good shape--buy it.

I was lucky enough to play a REAL Starcaster back in about 1981. It was a very cool guitar and played well. Very much allong the lines of Ibanez ES-335 copy Artist guitars. You don't see them around much, and when you do the cost big bucks due to their rarity.
