i bought a Starcaster pack a few days ago. I'm a beginner and likely not to be a long time player, so I went for $$$ and package. Everything but the setup/adjustment sheet was in the box. Anyone know where I can get one? I emailed Fender but all they did was send me to the Starcaster site, which has no info.

As for quality, etc. of the instrument and included stuff? I don't really have a clue. I figure that for $135.00 and my level of incompetence, it's good enough for my purposes; picking' and pluckin' ;-)

Thanks

Try this:

Be sure to read everything, and use the right tools. While it's not challenging work, it does require patience and time. Also, unless you're really comfortable with it, I would advise not performing any work on the nut. Most adjustments can be made and corrected. However, if you cut too wide or too deep a groove in the nut, you have to replace it.

My only other piece of advice is to embrace the instrument. Don't go into it thinking you may not conitue, you're already making your excuses and setting yourself up to fail. Tell yourself you're going to be the next local legend!! Ray Davies wrote "You Really Got Me" with only 4 chords (All of them the same barre formation). John Prine won a Grammy with 3 chords and a capo!

Ok, first of all you can download the info from the fender site, But...DO NOT SET THIS UP YOURSELF...get a pro at a good guitar shop to do it for you. This will save you countless hours of beating your head on the wall!!

You will need new strings....get really good ones.....ernie ball, etc.

If Possible, have the person who sets up your guitar add some springs to your tremelo bridge. They dont cost much, and it will help your guitar.

After the Starcaster is set up .... it will sound great and you will love playing it.

Also, if you want some extra instruction....get the fender DVD "getting started with electric guitar w/ Keith Wyatt. This is a great DVD for beginners and you can pick one up on ebay for under $20

Agreed. Keith Wyatt rocks and that DVD is excellent way to get started.
