I don't think so, Fender has its own prestige. Fender is characterized by the manufacturing quality of their instruments. Under any view Fender would need to promote its reputation with Shakira which has nothing to do with genuine rock (the style of music that Fender haS helped to build). In fact make a signature guitar for someone who makes a vacuum trademark from music is in detrimental to the concept that fans of Fender's quality have of Fender trademark... I understand that business are business but you should think that Fender guitars looks good because of what they really are and not for what they seems to be... I love real musicians as David Gilmour...

Does Fender need Shakira?

Quite right they do, and why not. She is no less valid as a musician or artsist just because she is less pretentious, or doesn't play 5 minute guitar solos.

It would be foolish of Fender as a company to ignore the musical interests of the younger generation (their future customers) and lavish all their time and attention on old rock dinosuars that only old men listen to.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a fan of Shakira, but I do find it silly that there is such a huge section of guitarists who can't see past Jeff Beck Eddie Van Halen and Dave Gilmour etc, and dismiss other forms of music (i.e. not boring MOR rock) as invalid.

I say it's fine that she's Fender camp. I'm not into her music, but she's popular and could drive some sales. And she's mildly hot, to boot. It's not like she has a signature model yet. Calm down.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I can't stand Shakira. She might be a looker, but her voice is terrible.
And no Fender does not need her.
She might need Fender, cause she is a passing fad.
Just my two cents.

She's 31, and has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide (according to B.M.I.). she has toured and performed all around the world and has won numerous awards.

I'm not a fan, just merely pointing out that some people do like her and what's wrong with that, especially if it increases sales for FMIC.

Shakira likes a light rock, she loves Depeche mode - Enjoy the Silence.

I love the Fender Mustang.......until i saw hers..then i felt bad for it......Shakira is super hot, but the pink Mustang.....not so much...I think that she would look better with a Gibson....like an SG or a LP Black Beauty. Fender doesn't need her no one does....i think it's more what she needs then what they need.....catch my drift?
