This may be a stupid question, but are different strings recommended for the short scale Fender guitars? I just picked up a Toronado, and just wasn't sure if I should use my Super Slinkys (9s) on her, or if there was a better choice.

Thanks!!!

I don't know about 6 strings, and I'm certainly not a pro, but I've always used regular long scale strings on my short scale Musicmaster Bass and never had any issues.

Pretty much, strings that will work with a Telecaster or Stratocaster will work with your Toronado. When Fender was still producing the Toronado, they likely put the same 9 - 42 set of Bullets on it as they do on Telecasters and Stratocasters.

you should probably use 10s due to the shorter scale

It is my experience that 11s are the best strings to use on a short scale. The guys over at http://www.shortscale.org who have tons of experience with short scales also recommend 11s.

I play on 12's on my Jag, which I use for surf and I use 11's on my Mustang, which I use for rock. Both do fine.

Note that when a guitar is set on 9's, you should probably finetune the bridge when start using 12's.
