I currently have a MIM Telecaster. I'd love to buy a Mustang reissue, but was concerned about the size difference. My friend told me it's a lot smaller. Can anyone else tell me their opinions on this?

Your friend is right, the Mustang is alot smaller than a tele, it's a short scale guitar. To be honest I prefer the shorter scales, I recently bought a Fender Duo-Sonic which has replaced my Strat as my main axe. The Mustang is alot more comfortable to play than a Tele as the body is thinner and is alot lighter. hope this helps.

Thank you! Are they supposed to say Crafted in Japan on the back of the neck or Made in Japan?

Japan has been making mustangs seance the early 90's, and their versions have "made in japan" or "crafted in japan" on the neck, depending on when it was made

I love both.
But until you've played the Mustang, don't pick it up.
I have always loved they way they looked and sounded but the damn switches get in my way. It's just a word to the wise. You may not have that issue.
I love my MIM Nashville Deluxe tele, I can't say it enough. I stole it for $199.
