Hi I have what is I believe a 62 reissue jazzmaster , just had some work done and the luthier questioned its make, it has a serial number starting v167787 on neck plate . None on neck and only a name on neck pocket

A serial number alone does not guarantee anything - fakers can fake serials, too. A reliable fake/legit ID'ing requires checking the guitar's features - sometimes on the forum with pics will solve the mystery.

That being said, feeding the serial (capital V, no blank spaces in between or in the end) to Fender's registration database ( https://www.fender.com/product-registra ... ial-search ) brings the result "American Vintage ‘62 Jazzmaster® (1999-2012)" but without a picture showing the colors.
The serial on the neck plate is just as it should be for that model.
And usually, the database is fairly reliable a) when it finds a match, and b) with US serials.
So, unless there is something with the guitar that raises suspicions, I'd be enclined to trust it's legit.
