I got myself the new American Performer Mustang and its my first guitar with a trem system.

Since it was equipped with light gauge strings, I replaced them with .010–.046. gauge strings.

However, that put too much tension on the tremolo, so I adjusted the spring posts (via the adjustment holes in the vibrato bar). After I did that, I've been told that one MUST NOT have tension on the strings when turning the adjustment screws—but that's what I did. Something can break, but I don't know anything more specific than that.

Now I don't know whether I already ruined my guitar so are there any signs that the disaster already occurred?

Also, turns out that adjusting the tension via the bar was not sufficient. One had to directly adjust the springs, changing the grooves directly on the spring post. (I let a professional do it this time around.)

Anyway, after all this I noticed two things. The strings get out of tune more quickly (especially upon using the trem) and there's some bridge buzz. Otherwise the instrument is fine—I think.

I would be grateful for any information on this. :D

Thanks in advance and all the best!

Web diagnosing is always difficult, but to get the topic rolling:

Strings going out of tune could point to many things - but the nut and the way the strings are wound on the tuner posts are the most common causes.
Buzzing at the bridge could be anything (including "not bridge buzzing at all"...) but it tells the guitar isn't set up to its peak.

Maybe discuss the problems with the pro you used - IMHO, if one does some bridge work, the price should always include a full setup.

On mine there was too much bow on the neck which caused the strings to go out of tune constantly. A quarter turn on the truss fixed it, not saying that's the same issue here, but it might be worth a punt checking the neck for anything being out.
