Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking around here for a while now, but finally decided to create an account and post this question after weeks of not finding my answer online. I’ve found similar questions on this forum, but none of the posts answer the specific questions/concerns I have.

Like many, I am torn between the Kurt Cobain Jaguar NOS and the Classic Player Jaguar Special HH. Here are the pros and cons I’ve worked out for each:

Classic Player Pros
    * Tremolo arm moved closer to bridge
    * It’s not an artist series, so I wouldn’t feel guilty modding it now & in the future
    * Tone blending (HH to S, and even inbetween)
    * Low-pass filter
    * Better Neck Angle? (I can’t tell from photos or videos, though)

Classic Player Cons:
    * Upfront cost of locking tuners, DiMarzio pickups (and possible other incidentals), and installation
    * Non-traditional circuitry could be a headache

I know I can buy the pickups and tuners separately, but I’ve heard that working on Jags can be difficult to work on due to complex wiring…and that was referring to the classic, S S setup! Should I be worried about finding techs around me that work on the Classic Player since these HH models are relatively new? If not, could I even drop the DiMarzios from the KC into the CP and still make use of the blending wheels? Would I need to drop $$ on anything else (such as pots, etc) if I want to get close to the KC’s sound?

Cobain Jag Pros:
    * Three-way toggle switch seems easier to use (maybe ‘cause I’m more used to it?)
    * DiMarzio DP103 PAF 36th Anniversary and DP100 Super Distortion pickups come standard
    * Two volume knobs instead of one
    * Locking tuners come standard, so I wouldn’t have to upgrade out-of-pocket

Cobain Jag Cons:
    * Vintage-style truss rod seems like it could be a pain for even experienced luthiers, let alone a novice such as myself.
    * Vintage tremolo plate placement
    * No low-pass filter
    * Can’t move between HH and S coils

The hardest thing for me to reconcile with on the KC Jaguar is the "classic" tremolo plate placement. It seems that the trem was moved closer to the bridge on the CP to help keep the strings in place and decrease “ringing.” Are strings jumping out of place something I’d have to worry about if I went with the Cobain model? And since none of the video reviews have mentioned any string hum, is it really that noticeable?

I’m sure I’m overthinking this, but I’ve never dropped nearly $1,400 (after tax) on anything that wasn’t house or car-related! Thanks for any help/advice y'all can give!

Can't really give much advice, since this basically is a typical "which guitar would make me happy" question, where only you can give the answer…

Anyways, to get the topic rolling.
One thing to think over once more is, if you choose between two HH models, why did you end up with the Jaguar? I mean, a basic SS Jag has a nature quite different from other Fenders, an HH Jag is yet again different from that.
And on the planned modding, my advice as always is to first give the guitar/your other gear/yourself adequate time (weeks, months, sometimes a year or more) to get to know one another.

That relates to the "why a Jag" above. Anyways, it is what a Jag is, and it can be solved with the right setup.
Like that guy from Notre Dame might say, "The shims, Esmeralda, the shims…"
