Hi all, I am in the process of restoring a 1965 Fender Mustang that was given to me by my parents on my 7th birthday (39 now). It has unfortunately been stripped of its original paint and I'm trying to get it back to its former glory. When I opened it up I discovered some concerning issues with the wiring that a shop apparently did when I took it in about a decade ago. I have found wiring diagrams online but I still have questions. There is a single strand wire running from the bridge into the housing for the volume/tone. I know this area certainly has a name so please forgive my ignorance. Anyhow, there are two ground wires coming from the volume pot, one runs to the pickups and the other was not connected. If I could get some help understanding where the single strand bridge wire and this second ground wire go I would be very appreciative. Thanks for the help and patience if this is a dumb question! Pics of what I'm working with are in following link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=10y0f0G9hr3F8qEBwa5_TJ5AkX9kX81NG

Ah, thanks for the help with the photo. The diagram is really useful, but that part that confuses me is I have two ground wires coming from the volume knob which appear to be original. One wire runs through the body to the pickups, the other wasn't attached to anything. Maybe I'll just leave it there are call it good? And I think the wire from the bridge is just to eliminate hum.

Thanks again for taking the time to look at this!

Did you know what look the ground symbol on my picture ?

Look at my picture and do the same thing with all ground wires.

Bridge must be connected to ground.

All ground *must be connected together.
Pots body, output jack negative, bridge and one from a switch

I do understand the ground symbol, and maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I don't see the bridge in the diagram. I see the bridge pickup, but not the bridge itself. When I put it back together I do what you suggest and ground the bridge as that's likely what that wire was for. Thanks again for your help and patience!

Here's a diagram of the Japanese '65 Mustang, don't know if it clarifies the matter or makes it more confusing: http://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Origi ... A_SISD.pdf

This is perfect, thank you. It's probably common knowledge that the bridge is the ground point, but the other diagrams didn't show it. Thanks for the help.

You are welcome.
Remove those two electrical "marrette "and make a good solder.

Absolutely! Those have already been removed. I hated taking out original wiring, but somebody got lazy with this thing. Straight runs and soldered connections only when it goes back together.
