Good day everyone,

So I want to buy a 2016 Fender Duo Sonic HS in Surf Pearl, but have found that on different sites the colors do not match. I love the color of the Surf Pearl on Fender's Website but when I go to sweetwater for example the color is different. I am aware that this can be caused by camera calibration and possibly lighting, but i was wondering if any one had one of these guitars that could give their view on how the color looks in person.

RGB Values
Fender Surf Pearl: R=164 G=184 B=149
Sweetwater Surf Pearl: R=168 G=200 B=175

Fender Surf Green: R=176 G=200 B=172
Sweetwater Surf Green: R=189 G=234 B=223

One can't trust pics on a computer screen, pics from the web, pics on a magazine (etc.) for color correctness.
And for some colors, even holding it in your hands for a visual may lie (think "white" in different lightings…).
Paints from different production batches may vary. The same color code with different paint types may turn out different. Plus, the color coating is not always exactly the same. And even the wood underneath may play a part. Etc.

So, the only way to know what you get is to go measure the RGB-values on a real guitar, in a standard lighting and controlled H/S/L of course.

It does? Why? Who "measures" color? Can't you just look at something and decide if you like the looks of it? Do you need a tool to tell you that you might possibly like the color of something? Are we loosing our freaking minds around here?
I agree with the "see it in person" theory, because pictures (on any format) can be deceiving---but come on; measure RGB values? LOL! What?!?

And I apologize if jmattis means "compare"...but he didn't say compare, he said 'measure' as in the use of a device. And to me that is ridiculous. Sorry.

Well, it seems the OP is above-average meticulous about the colors, so (being OCD myself in many of my habits, though that doesn't reach to guitar colors, except on repaints) I tried to help.
I wrote "measure", so that's what I meant - did you notice the smiley winking face, btw?

But why oh why does that bother you? Didn't you approve the thanks I received for my answer?

LOL! No...I missed the "wink". But the wink makes more sense to me now. And the "thanks that helped" is what set me off---my brain did not approve. Everyone's brain (and OCD's) work different. I guess I can see one person wanting a color that "measures" to EXACTALLY the name and description of a color in order to appease their OCD...but mine isn't that picky.
Excellent thread!
