Hey Guys,

I've Recently Purchased a Fender stratocaster Blue Flower. I'm looking for some information about this guitar because it doesn't have any serial number on it. The body says ST-72PFX(In the neck joint of the body). It has the large headstock with bullet truss rod on it.

Hope you can help me

Hi,

There's a discussion subforum for Stratocasters which is the most appropriate for your concern.

1988 Fender MIJ Blue Flower Stratocaster.
This is an excellent and versatile guitar in excellent overall condition.
The guitar is 100% original.
The thinner c-shaped neck is lighting fast and there’s a ton of life left in the frets.
The guitar has play wear on the sides of the neck and a hanger mark on the headstock and looks like someone installed a strap button on the lower horn. The triple Fender single coil pickups in the bridge, middle and neck positions allow for a wide array of tones. Very nice Fender traditional style tremolo system and smooth Gotoh tuners. Includes hardshell case and whammy bar.

The Floral and Paisley Strats and Teles have been on and off on the Fender Japan menu.
The "ST-72" tells the base model (= a Japanese version of the 1972ish Stratocasters), but that model has been made in many variations from basic models (standard pickups) via the middle-priced ones (US pickups or such) to signature versions (artist specified specs) and limited editions (can be anything…).

On the three (sometimes two) letters, I don't think anyone has been able to crack the codes reliably - often they seem to have no connection with anything relevant.

So, if there was nothing to help date the guitar when you opened it up, that's just about how far you can get.

The missing serial number raises some doubts about the origins, but then again it's not uncommon with Japanese Fenders.

There was a reissued version of the floral Stratocaster which is different from the 1980s original.

The 2017 MIJ Traditional floral Strat is based on a '62 model as it sports a rosewood fingerboard.
