I've been playing acoustic guitar for two years now and I'm ready to go electric. I like the idea of the Duo-Sonic HS, which gives me the option of a humbucker and a single-coil pickup, but I've also always admired single coil Strats and Teles. I've tried to hear the differences between these guitars in videos and in stores, but my untrained ear isn't much help. I play mainly for myself and my wife, music from my youth ('60s - '80s), and I'm not going to play in public anytime soon. I'm not into metal or shredding, I mainly play chords and classic American/British rock and roll and some folk rock. I need some help about how each of these guitars sounds and what might be best for me (in your experienced opinion). Am I going to be happy with a Duo-Sonic or would a Strat or Tele be a better choice when thinking long-term? Any help/opinions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Vinny

If you like the Duo-Sonic, I'd go with that. :)

All three.
Each has their own unique sound and feel.

Buy the Telecaster and you'll be trading up for a Strat in a year.

Buy the Duo-Sonic and you'll be trading up for a Strat in six months.

Or just buy the Strat and be thankful you didn't take it in the shorts with all that depreciation I spared you from.

Never before and once again, I respectfully disagree with Arjay. The OP seems to be getting to the honorable and widely envied age where a Telecaster might fit the overall needs better. 8)

But seriously...
The Duo-Sonic is short scale, which means less string tension. The Strat (usually) has the trem, which requires some skills to set up. And a Tele body is less contoured than a Strat.
All things to remember when choosing - personal preferences make the final choice.
One sidenote, though: all guitars mentioned have a lot of different models...

Yep.
When I was in my 20s, even though I loved Pat Benatar, I didn't like Geraldo simply because I saw a picture of him playing "one of those country guitars"
Keef got a pass, though the Stones really were never my favorite and it wasn't until I was in my 30s that I began to appreciate them, as well as the more talented blues players. Heck, when he was alive, I resented SRV because the DJs always referred to him as "The White Hendrix"... No... Nobody replaces Jimi....

Anyways... so I have a closet full of Strats and G&L Strat-Like objects, as well as a couple of Epiphones and a Kramer... but lately I've been getting the itch to either buy a Player series Tele, or build a Partscaster Tele with a custom patriotic paint job.

Thank you all for your suggestions and opinions, they're helping me make a decision, which will probably take me a while since I'm an indecisive procrastinator who seeks perfection. In the meantime, I'll be spending countless hours trying out guitars at my local store.

Yep.

It's started.

Just buy all 3 and sell the ONE you like the least
