Hi...I own a 1966 Fender Jazzmaster. I got this guitar brand new when I was 15. I haven't a clue what kind of strings were factory issue at the time. I'm thinking they were Flatwounds, heavy, like 12's. Would anyone have the specs? Being a dopey kid at the time, I was probably putting on whatever was available. Appreciate any info.

The glorious pre-slinky days when nobody cared about gauges and such utter nonsense...

There's some nice info on http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/guitar/strings.html
and even a pic of 1966 Fender strings brochure:

Thank you so much for the info, this is a tremendous help. I had a flashback to make me think they weren't flats from the factory. I was playing in a band at the time, and I recall showing up at practice with my new Jazzmaster. My bandmates had more experience, the lead guitarist played a Jaguar, the Bass Player a Precision Bass. They were thrilled with my guitar. We all now matched with Olympic White instruments. During rehearsal they started to complain I was "sqeaking" ...Wha??? It was my strings, you know that scratchy noisy business that goes on sliding up and down the neck. That's when they told me about Flatwounds. It's then that I got myself some Flats...

One thing for anyone thinking white guitars look dull; colored stage lights turn them into Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoats.
