Just purchased a new American Original 60’s Jaguar. I love the guitar but there is a very annoying microphonic squeal every time I turn the volume up past 4-5 on my Super Reverb or if I use any dirt pedals. It occurs with both the upper & lower circuits and both pickups. If there’s something simple I can do to repair it I’m capable. Don’t really wanna have to send it in for repairs or return it but it’s almost unusable at gig or jam levels. Just seeing if anyone out there has experience with this issue? I had an AVRI 62 Jag that had no noise like this. Any advice is appreciated.

Most of the time it is because there are some moving parts in the pickups wich they should'nt move. Return on warranty to replace the pickups.
Or you play at a too loud volume too close to the amp.

Just some simple troubleshooting thoughts - and one note: Jags are more prone to squeal than e.g. Strats.

First, as st52 mentioned, the playing position in relation to the amp.
Have you tried different pickup heights? Lowering is easy, and might help.
Are the pickups wax potted from the factory? If not, there's a distant chance wax potting would help.
Have you tested the guitar with the pickup claw(s) off? If the squeals come from resonance, a slight bending or some tape (/other cushion) between the claw & pickup could work.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I have tried moving the amp further away & turning my body away or at an angle. Helps some but still pretty bad. I’ll try lowering the pickups & see if that helps. Just visually looking at the pups, the claws seem tight, no excessive movement in them but I can see a little gap between the fingers on the claws and the pickup cover. Also Fenders website for this model states the pups are pure vintage 65 jag pups. If you scroll down the page they list them as 62 jag pups. Probably a typo & im sure they’re pretty similar, but wouldn’t these have been wax potted when they were built? Im not going to try wax potting them myself if it came to that. At that point I’d return the guitar under warranty for repairs. But id just like to see if I can remedy it without shipping it back. I’ll keep you guys posted.

You can see or feel the moving parts in the pickups.
It's too subtle, they are tiny movements most of the time invisible even by dismounting the pickups.

A guitar tech can see if it is the pickup or not.

I unscrewed the pickups from the body and carefully pulled them up from their cavities. They are wax potted. I gently squeezed the the fingers on the claws a little tighter and made the pickup cover fit snugger. Reinstalled the pickups & lowered them a bit. The squeal is better. Not fully gone, but maybe that’s the nature of this guitar? Just strange cuz I previously owned a 62 AVRI Jag that didn’t have this issue at any volumes or with any dirt pedals. Maybe the best thing, as suggested, is to exchange the guitar or have it checked out/repaired by a Fender tech. Thanks again guys!
