Hey,
If you're looking for a cool alternative guitar. I picked up a used Squier Esprit and have been rather impressed. This is an affordable version of that Fender Elite (Robben Ford's axe). I guess you can compare it to one of those Gibson/EPi DOTs. Same configuration but shaped like a larger symmetrical strat with a chambered body.
When I'm not spanking my strat, I use this guitar for comping jazz chords when I play with the jazz fiends  . It's light, nice full tone and plays like a dream.

I bought it used and it came with a cloth 'bag' :?: Does Fender make a hard case for this specific guitar? Right now I'm using a Gibson case and it just aint right :x

I don't believe Fender makes a case for these and an original '80s case would be expensive.

I missed out on getting one of these. There were some quality problems and conflicting reviews so I never took the plunge. Even tried to pick up one on eBay, but prices ended up being close to the $399 street price.

Would like to see another reissue. Anyway, how do you like yours? What color did you get?

Yeah,
I asked a couple of guys at Guitar Center the other day and they told me the same thing. I bought mine used off of Craigslist for $250 from a guy who had it hanging on the wall. He described it as a nice guitar for folks to play so they wouldn't mess with his high end stuff. the guitar was vitrually new and came with a big black flannel drawstring bag.... which I thought was kind of strange.
I've got the one with the natural satin Mahogany finish. Very nice looking guitar and plays like a dream. Even though it has the 24.75 scale, the neck shape and where it sits on your body with a strap is similar to a strat. Easy to go back and forth if you desire.
I use it mostly as an 'in between guitar'. I'm more of the rhythm guy. Sometimes we'll have 3 guitars. One guy with a strat, the other guy has big archtop Gibson. The Esprit's tone sits nicely between the two.

Man, I hope you enjoy it. I still look for one every now and then tho' I probably have more guitars than I need right now.

I picked one up a black one about a week ago. When I got it the strings buzzed so bad that it was virtually unplayable. After a quick set up it plays really nice. I got it off of an auction site for a hair over $150. I bought it with only seeing a picture of it. It looks like new, but it had 10s on it so someone apparently had it before me.
