I recently came in to a late-1960/early-61 Duo Sonic and I'm trying to verify originality. While the body was refinished (unfortunately) to a "natural" look, removing the pickguard shows the original desert sand paint. Serial number is 57874 on the neck plate. Pots are dated 19th week of 1960 and all electronics appear to be original and in good working order. My biggest issue is with the neck. I believe whichever owner was trying to go for the natural look scrubbed off the spaghetti logo (again, unfortunate) and when I tried to remove the neck to look at the date, it's either swollen in to the body, glued, or the re-finish wasn't copmletely set when they reinstalled the neck. Everything to me looks correct on the neck, from the Kluson tuners, slab board design and general wear, age, and finish. I'll post a few pictures after I get off work. I'm hesitant to mess with the neck until I take it to my luthier, but is there anything else I should be looking for or trying? Thanks!

The pickguard should be gold-anodized aluminum, the Kluson tuners feature ivory-colored plastic buttons, and a chrome "ashtray" bridge cover was original equipment. Flat-top Telecaster knobs and a chrome-plated switch tip were standard. A near-pristine example can be seen here......

A 1960/61 (= post-1959 facelift) Duo-Sonic could have a plastic pickguard and black pickup covers.
