Hey guys so I have a Japanese Fender Jag and the previous owner superglued a small emblem to the top corner on the face of the headstock. I was able to remove it, but now there is a small square without the finish on the headstock. What would be the best way to blend the current finish with the bare wood? Would spray Poly do the trick or would this be difficult to blend with the current clear coat? Does anybody know what Fender uses to finish their necks/headstocks with?

Thanks guys!

Getting a bare wood spot blend in with the rest of the finish is never easy, especially on the headstock which sticks in the eye (no pun intended).

How big is that square spot, would a drop fill do, with super glue or polyester?
Anyways, the edges need to be smoothened, the wood cleaned and the color (aged wood, tint & such) matched. Sometimes these things need a full headstock face refin, which might bring up decal problems.

One possibility is to glue the emblem back, if you still have it and it isn't something too offensive. It's a part of the guitar's history...

The original finish is most likely polyester (very few Japanese with nitro).

If you can drop fill it and get near the original tint , overfill it then flat sand to blend in with the rest of the headstock then recoat all the headstock , flatting down every few coats
By the time you have finished with any luck it will at most look like a minor wood mark or flaw

Thanks for the info guys! It’s about the size of a quarter. I really do not want to have to refinish the headstock. I’m leaning toward drop filling with superglue, but I am open to any other options. Oh and I do not have the emblem so I wouldn’t be able to put it back if I wanted to.

Thanks!
