Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you guys can help me identify this guitar for me. My dad got it when he was about 15 years old from a pawn shop and he is currently 42 i believe. I think it's from sometime in the 60s or early 70s.

Not IMO , it is a 80 to 90 guitar. Not a great value, it is a bottom line guitar
What is the serial number ?

If it's short scale (well. the Japanese called it "medium" and "314", but they mean 628mm; 24.75" or "Gibson scale"...) my guess is ST-331.

I can get the serial number when I get home from school. I didn't expect it to be top end or anything, I know it's a low end - cheap guitar, was just curious the model. All I can say for now is that it was made in Japan. Also, to clarify, I don't know much about guitars so that's why I assumed it was maybe 60s - 70s, since my dad picked it up in a pawn shop it may have been older than the year he bought it.

With the mention of the Japanese, is it any hep that it was made in Japan?

Sure it is not, Fender don't make guitar outside USA like in Japan before 1980

Serial number will tell all.

If you are in school, your father is not old

Well, I wouldn't consider 42 old to be honest lol. But I do believe it's a squier ST-331. I'm also almost out of highschool so yeah, he's close to old but not quite there lol.

Your grandfather may have a chance to find a '60 '70 guitar in a pawn shop, not your father at 42 years old.

Trust me it is "modern" and not old guitar.

Those ST-331's would be no older than end-of-the-eighties guitars.

One note on the "didn't expect it to be top end or anything"; in my experience, any guitar made in Japan those days was a good instrument. They may have chosen different (= cheaper) body wood or hardware, but they made every guitar as well as they could, following the Japanese (wood)working traditions.
(And in many cases, a Fender and a corresponding Squier were real close to each other...)

If anyone was looking for the serial number for the guitar it's "A025307"

So I'd take the ST-331 model as confirmed. I'd span the A-serial a bit longer than Fender's list, a Squier MIJ could be from '84 as well. Sometimes the neck end/pocket have date marks, so if you ever open it, take pics.

Basic specs: 24.75" scale, 12" radiused neck with a pre-CITES rosewood fretboard. The body is probably basswood, color "トリノ・レッド" (= Torino Red), priced at ¥39.800 when new.
And the pièce de résistance; that pickup is called the Dragstar.

Not worth a fortune in money, but when it's checked, fixed if necessary and set up, it's more a metal monster than a toy guitar.
