I have a 2008 built VG Strat that I purchased in about 2009. I have played it over the years, but just this past 2-3 months, I realize that the Roland is no longer working, at least the mode knob no longer works on anything but the "N" setting. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

thank you!

First things first: did you try fresh batteries?

I have tried fresh batteries. I have opened up the guitar to look for loose wiring and any potentially friend components, but have found none.

OK, besides that and maybe a little contact cleaner on the controls, these VG's are w-a-y beyond my capacities.

Seems there is no service diagram available for the model (you could ask Fender Consumer Relations via the support pages - and please share if you succeed). Nor are there replacement parts for the 2007/2008 VG any longer...

You could try if the good members at vguitarforums can help. Here's a page with pics of the insides (a nightmare for any repairer) and another where member "gumbo" offers to PM the 'service notes':
