Considering that it was Leo's final design, why wasn't the Marauder (the real one) ever produced? I realize that there were some patent issues with the original 4-pickup design, but a 3 pickup version was built later. I realize that this thing had a version of the Dynamic Vibrato (which people hate for absolutely no reason I can fathom) and all of the switching options of a Mustang and Jaguar, but is the modern consumer really unsophisticated enough to make it work? It seems like it would be a Gibson/Strat killer.

The official reason is the sale to CBS, who were not interested in that way of evolution and ditched the idea.
It's the old cost/profit monster. (Which, by the way, might be the definitive factor in the lefty Fenders issues on your other posts.)

Here's a bit more on the Marauders: http://www2.fender.com/experience/guita ... marauders/

BTW, I'm very doubtful any new guitar model would 'kill' older guitar models. Can't imagine a world where LesPauls or Strats would be sold for peanuts because no-one wants them...
