As an owner of many guitars, i was looking to build upon my fender collection by adding a jazzmaster. I had always been turned off by all the knobs, wheels, and switches though. And then comes the new simplified Am Pro. Boom. At that point, I’m all in except i can’t find one to hold. Finally, the local GC gets one ordered for me to check out.

So.. my initial thoughts, issues, and observations. The fit and finish was pretty decent. The guitar was heavier than i thought it would be. The set up was so-so. (But i can deal with all of that).

However.. The screw in tremolo arm was loose, even when screwed in all the way. It rattled annoyingly in the fitting. Also, the mechanism that’s supposed to lock the tremolo didn’t seem to function correctly. (There was no noticeable change in the string tension when it was locked or unlocked). ie, the tremolo was on in either position. You would think that fender would have all of this worked out since the model has been around since the earl 1960’s. Bummer.

Like many others, i also had an issue with the e strings being too close to the fretboard edges.

But, The thing that bothered me the most, was probably more of an aesthic thing. The guitar I played had a maple fret board and the board cantilevered out over the guitar body. I understand about resonance an such and i have other guitars that have this same concept (telecaster, etc) But I’ve never seen such a poor job of the way fender did it on this guitar. I’m not sure if it was because of the new tilt adjustment or what, but the underside of the fretboard was nearly 3/8” above the face of the pick guard. It was like neck joint was set too high. It looked horrible. Perhaps it’s knit picky, but between this, the tremolo, and the saddle width, I may have to walk away from the Am Pro jazzmaster.

I’d love to hear from fender on this so they can say this is not the norm and that i should reconsider, because I really wanted to like this guitar.

Fender representatives don't often answer on the forum (the CS section is the exception testing the rule), so if you aren't satisfied with us mortals on the forum, email them directly with your concerns (via the support pages).

On the issues you met, they might IMHO all (well, maybe not the high sitting neck, but that's usual with Fenders) be fixed with a proper setup...
Check this for the tremolo: http://offset.guitars/the-goodies/setti ... lo-system/
And this for the string spacing: https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=108340
