I played what I think was a 2011 Mustang Pawn Shop and while back and fell in love with it.. especially it's feel and smoothness. Unfortunately I couldn't afford it at the time so I reluctantly placed it back on the stand.

This was this first and last Japanese made Mustang Pawn Shop I've come across. They occasionally pop up on places like eBay and Reverb, and very rarely on craigslist, which would be ideal, as I like to play a guitar instead of just blindingly buyin it.

My question is to anyone that's tried multiple MIJ Mustang Pawn Shops from the same year. Are they consistent in their play-ability, or does it vary from one to the other (similar to a Gibson)?

Thanks,
Adam

You don't seem to get answers from persons who actually have played multiple individual MIJ Pawn Shop Mustang Specials. No wonder, since there probably wasn't many shops stocking several of those guitars - new model, Japanese, two color options etc.
So, in hope that this ignites at least some discussion:

In my experience, regardless of where a Fender is built, they are usually WYE(xpect)IWYG. (That "E" means, one can assume what an instrument is like by the price class - especially if one understands the US/CS prestige and its effects to raise the price, and the competition situation which lowers some prices.)

But there are exceptions. Every product category, guitars included, has the occasional lemons (bad wiring, propeller neck etc.). And on the other hand, one might get more than was expected (like the Lite Ash/Korea Strats).
All MIJ's I've owned/repaired/played fall into the 'as expected' or 'pleasant surprise' categories.

The HH with Enforcers and no trem would make me consider other Mustangs. I'm guessing the feel and smoothness you experienced could be because of the scale length and setup.
But YMMV.

Oh, and any guitar needs a good setup before it plays at its best.
