The Coronado list price was recently raised to $724.99 by retailers such as Sam Ash, Guitar Center, Sweetwater, and Musicians Friend. The Coronado reissue no longer appears on the Fender website. Does this mean that Coronado is out of production and remaining stock at retailers is all that's left?

The Coronado has been on and off the menu, reissued and whatnut. If it's gone again, at least there is hope for a re-reissue. And the Starcaster could be considered as some comfort, maybe.

Fender routinely discontinues then re-issues many instruments in its catalog. And for those who cannot wait, there's always the secondary market to serve that demand.

If Coronado really has stopped production, now would be a good time for Fender to reissue the Coronado XII. Rickenbacker doesn't have that much competition in the 12-string market and this would keep the Coronado name alive. But this time sell it with a hard case included.

Fender's 12-string Strat is currently OOP so that would make sense. And they should always offer a HSC for any and all of their premium-quality instruments.

Fender always should offer some kind of 12-string option. I understand it is a niche item unless you're Roger McGuinn much like the Bass VI is. They're both great for adding some spice to your music, but not something you would play everyday. There were rumors of an Electric XII RI from Squier about the time the Bass VI was released. Obviously it never happened. I waited a long time for the RI before I gave up and bought a dead mint Stratocaster XII on eBay. It was my first 12-string and it was harder to play than I thought it would be.

I'm surprised because mine felt as natural as a conventional Strat the moment I picked it up. And it was a helluva lot more playable than a Rick 370-12 would be with its ultra-narrow fretboard. The only shortcoming I found with the MIJ Strat XII was the electronics but that was swiftly rectified by replacing everything under the hood with US-made stuff (pickups, pots, switch, output jack). The Custom Shop '69 pickups I installed sound quite similar to DeArmond "toasters".

I think it is my playing style. I do a lot of bending -- big ones, little ones, micro bends -- and you cannot do it easily on a 12-string. I sound very stiff on the Strat XII.

I wonder if the Fender Coronado out of production status has anything to do with the Supro Coronado? https://suprousa.com/guitars/americana- ... oronado-2/
How can two manufacturers have guitars with the same name?

For anyone interested, the Coronado Sunburst is on sale at Musician's Friend as the deal-of-the-day for a really good price. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/fender-coronado-semi-hollowbody-electric-guitar/j01792000003001
P.S.
A check on Musician's Friend website the following day shows that the Sunburst model is no longer offered; it must have completely sold out.

Long time lurker, finally joined the forums a while back.

Amazon has the Cherry Red Coronado for $499 right now. The 3 color Sunburst and Black are $699, with the Black Cherry Burst at $724.

I just bought a mint condition 3 Color Sunburst off Reverb, paid $425. It arrived today and I love it so far. Beautiful guitar with some very interesting tone options. Fun, fun.

Right after I purchased it I saw the Red Cherry on Amazon. I really like the Sunburst, but had this one not been available I would have bought the new Red Cherry for a few dollars more than this used one.

This forum is not helpful for GAS. Developing an itch now for the CVC Tele. Something about white binding on a sunburst body.

Well, my post above was submitted on the 12th. At that time, those prices were correct. Unfortunately, since it was my first post here, it took a while for approval.

As for the Coronado itself, I still love it. Still having fun with the WIDE range of tone options. Combined with a Mustang GT Amp, they work well together.

Still trying to resist the CVC Tele though.

Congrats on your purchase. The Sunburst Coronado was the guitar that rekindled my love of guitars. My first electric guitar was a Granada 5202T made by Matsumoku, with a Fender type headstock and diamond shaped f-holes like the Gibson Trini Lopez. Since you like Red Cherry color so much, there is a Granada 5202T on Reverb for a real bargain. Just think how much original 1960's Coronado's and Trini Lopez's cost, and this will not help your GAS syndrome.

By the way GAS stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome, a condition found particularly often in guitarists, with cases reported to have increased significantly since the introduction of the Internet. Symptoms include constant viewing of guitar websites, uncontrollable drooling over pictures of guitars, amps and pedals and an insatiable desire to acquire more and more of same. Symptoms can be temporarily alleviated through the purchase of guitar-related gear, only to return as soon as the novelty has worn off. Unfortunately there is no known cure for this disease and sufferers are condemned to spend their entire lives acquiring gear.

In my original post, I was referring to the CAR model, not sure why I wrote Cherry Red. The one I got is 3 Tone Sunburst, like this one.

https://reverb.com/p/fender-coronado-gu ... r-sunburst

Unfortunately, I am very familiar with GAS. I'm 44, been playing for 30 years. You are correct, since the internet came along, GAS has increased exponentially.

It has impacted my other hobby as well, Astronomy. Another side effect of the internet and GAS is called PBA. Paralysis By Analysis.

On a side note, it is strange also how our tastes change and evolve over time. For as long as I can remember, I never liked Sunburst style guitars, any burst actually. I always preferred solid colors.

Now I find myself drooling over anything with burst in the name. The Cherry Burst Starcaster in particular is lovely. Right now though, my current obsession is the Classic Vibe Custom. Also a sucker for binding on guitars. I haven't had a Tele in a while. So, it is getting harder to resist.

The Granada you linked to, yes it is very nice.

I have to say I am very happy with my Coronado II reissue only complaint, it’s a little on the heavy side. Definitely a lot of guitar for the money… Plays & sounds great...it can cover a lot of territory.

Going to be real interesting to see now that companies are moving back to the United States because it’s cheaper to do business here once again and with all the tax and regulation cuts… Company are moving back from Mexico and China.

I strongly suspect it’s not going to be profitable much longer for fender importing products from China & Mexico back into United States.
