I had one of these years ago and I sold it...well...basically so I wouldn't have to live in a refrigerator box under a bridge. Anyway...I am a responsible adult now...yuck. Anyway having the means, and having found one of these fairly rare beasts...today...I've replaced it. This one is so much cleaner than mine was, the top is a lot nicer, and the color is too (the old one was cherry SB and very plain). So, mine was a Standard. This one looks the same, but it has a coil splitting switch. To boil it down...same body, tuners, and inlays as the Standard with the electronics of the Elite/Ultra. What model is that? I should be able to find it online, but...I'm probably just I-spazzing.

I have two others that are Squier Esprits. I think they're amazing once you swap the PUP's/electronics and hardware, and they're cheap! Not sure what I'll do with this one...just play it for a while I suppose. I have different amps now, so I'll see how these Schaller PUPs play with them. I have SD 59's in one and Ibanez Super 58's in the other, and they both have Tonepros hardware (one has Grovers the other Shaller locking tuners). The new MIJ guitar has all Schaller hardware, so before I try to put Tonepros or similar on there...like I said...just play for a while.
Couldn't figure out how to post pictures here, so:

If there's another way...happy to post here.

Haven't added a new guitar for about a year, so I am pretty excited. I may have to sell a few coming up because I just have too many, but it is sooooo hard to decide what to part with!

There is a Master Series Catalogue 1984 available for downloading, link below. It's a 25 megabytes pdf, so may take a while to download.
On the last page specs, there's an Esprit Elite with dot inlays, chrome tuning machines and a "coil tap" (actually, coil split) switch. So, who da cap fit, let 'em wear it...

Thanks very much. That's what's confusing...the splitter switch and TBX are not on the Standard...but this one has them...and looks like a Standard. The original owner hasn't made any mods, so...?

Actually, and IMHO, all seems to be as it should, not confucious at all.

There were three Master Series models; D'Aquisto, Flame and Esprit. Each one of those had three "accessory" levels; Standard, Elite and Ultra.

Your guitar (if it's all original - I take no side on that) is model Esprit, garnished on level Elite - with upgrade electronics but not with e.g. gold tuners and block inlays.

Yeah...that's how it appears. I don't have it in my hands until Friday, so I can examine more carefully to see if it was modded (the first owner may not remember...I really don't care as I would do that mod anyway). I'm just interested to know if Fender would have modded any of these Standards. It's just for information...I like to know stuff.
Thanks all. If anyone really digs that RF tone...those Squiers are awesome platforms! I play them through a Ceriatone OTS and it's that tone and super-playable all the way up the neck. I expect this one will be even nicer, but I'll be happy with just as nice.

Here is a link to an independent site on the Master Series. I wish they would reissue those again. I think the Squier version didn't do them justice. Still, I tried to buy one a few years ago and the prices seemed high to me then.

I have to say, I have 2 Squiers...I put Tonepros hardware on them...one has SD 59's...the other Ibanez Super 58's...they are heavy but they play and sound sweet. This one is going to need PUPS...these Schallers just don't have much personality. The thing plays like a beast though.
