I'm surprised there hasn't been more news on this. When does Fender typically release new model guitars? I have yet to see or hear a formal announcement yet.

Various reports say it will retail anywhere from 600-1000 dollars, which would lead me to believe that it maybe made in Japan or Mexico, which would really bum me out.

I really do hope some definative news comes out soon on this. I heard it had a two page spread in the latest Frontline magazine, but still have heard no official details. :?

I saw the SamAsh posting earlier today. What other places are selling it? I haven't seen it on Musiciansfriend yet?

The SamAsh one is still 'On Order' so I assume the guitar hasn't officially been released yet. Presumably soon though XD

You can buy an AVRI for that list price! Why spend all that money on a basswood CIJ?

I would be delighted if it was a cij. lately the cij in japan have been custom shop quality, but they r only available to the japanese market or on ebay. They are made out of alder, or ash(blonde finish). I have been fortunate enough to get a hold of one of these jazzmasters. The quality of this guitar blew me away. The stock pickups sound great(although i have been considering replacing them with quarter pounders). I do agree that it would be a disapointment if it would be a japanese out of basswood. Its still a good wood but not 4 the jazzmaster. I am hoping it is a japanese one. Cheers.

The J Mascis Jazzmaster is made of basswood and is CIJ..., go on the Sam Ash link above.
The only slight confusion I have is the pickups, are they american vintage reissue or standard CIJ? Standard CIJ aren't vintage spec, yet the SamAsh definiton says

I like how it says "start choppin" at the end of the description on that page. Thats gotta be one of the funniest things I've ever seen on the internet.

:D It took a while, but the J Mascis Jazzmaster is finally on the Fender site. Go to Artist models. No description yet, but some rather tasty pics.

The pickups are made in Japan, but they are not the same pickups used in the regular CIJ/MIJ models. These pickups are supposedly wound to J's own specifications. I know someone who already has this guitar and he says these pickups blow away the ones in his CIJ Jazzmaster. Which is good news because I was going to change them out the second I got it. Looks like I'll probably keep it the way it is when I get it.

Seems like a pretty cool guitar, though I have yet to try it out. Gonna see if I can soon.

Though vintage fender style tuning machines are a pain and that is a VERY purple guitar.

Woulda been better without a matching headstock, but oh well.

Seems like these are harder to get than previously thought. However I found one at the local shop and bought it on the spot. Its a very nice guitar for being made in Japan. I really like the nitro neck, the jumbo frets, and the purple sparkle paint.

Any Mascis Jazzmaster owners interested in a trade for a Fender CIJ Mustang Bass RI in white with hard case? I can get pictures if anyone is interested. I just traded another jazzmaster for a bass and I am very interested in the Mascis Jazzmaster to replace it. I can add some cash if you like, or I've also got a couple of pedals that are swapable. Let me know.
