I've been learning more about Jaguars, and I can't find a definite answer: Back in 1962-5, was it possible to get a Jaguar in olympic white or any other custom color WITHOUT a matching headstock?

And regarding 80s and 90s made in Japan ones, how were their headstocks finished?

Thanks in advance for the answers! :)

In Fender's 1964/65 catalog, none of the custom-color instruments shown feature a matching headstock. The 1966/67 brochure shows several custom-color guitars (excepting the Strat and Tele) with painted headstocks. IIRC, that option had to be customer-specified when the instrument was ordered.

Thanks Roger!

I'll try to find it and take a look!

I owned a 62 Reissue MIJ Jazzmaster from the 80's and the headstocks were not painted. You could order one, but as I remember from my days working at a Fender Dealer, it took forever to get one.
