Hey all,

I just bought and got my first Fender today. I got the Vince Ray Unlucky 13. It looks beautiful but seems to have some flaws in the paint and a chip in the decal. The flaws aren't too noticeable at first but after awhile, they're clear as crystal. Should I return it or should I just deal with it?

hmmm... Maybe...
Would it be possible to post a pic of these flaws in the forum for us to see?
(You will need to upload the images somewhere else on the web and then reference them in ur post here.)

Yeah, I just forgot last night is all. I'll post up some pics later. Kinda wish it was as easy as the Ibanez forum.

Here are the pics of the flaws in my Fender. Couldn't figure out how to reference them.

Let me post it for ya & make them click able to the larger size too.
But first, to post an image in this forum find out the address to the image (out there on the web) that you want to post and put that url (address) between "image tags" for the forum... Look below.

It looks kinda like this when you type it in:
[ img]http://bp3.blogger.com/_WzbDmls9pwE/SHP-PUoB6lI/AAAAAAAAABg/QJTZHOx81qs/s320/DSC00039.JPG[ /img]

If I put that text above in here with no spaces
& you no longer see that text, just the image:
Image
I can definately see the flaws in the 13 above...
(the 1 has two flaws in the dark paint and one flaw in the 3)

Also I see where paint ran on to the edge of the body below:
Image
It's just to the left of the neck on the edge of the body...

Look almost in the center of the image below. You can
see some kind of brown spot in the paint above the car:
Image

I see a white looking streak...
coming off the side of the skull's head below.
Image
Is that the chip in the paint ur talking about?

Thanks for posting my pics. I used the camera on my phone as I don't have another one. But yeah, you found every flaw that I was talking about. Is this normal or am I just being overly picky?

Hello CHinklemann,

I would be on the phone with somebody.

New guitars should be in new condition.

Hope things work out.

Cheers.

I called Musician's Friend and they told me that they could exchange the guitar but they won't be recieving anymore til November. So, I guess I'll just sit on it for a minute and think about it.

Okay, I'm keeping my flawed Fender. Basically cause I don't want to wait 4 months for another one. But please tell me that this is not a typical Fender guitar quality.

I just received a brand new American Standrad Tele and it's flawless. I was going to order from Musicians Friend but after hearing about Sweetwater I went through them. They actually inspect the guitar before shipping it to you to prevent getting a guitar that is less then perfect.

Fender makes excellent instruments but occasionally things happen. Personally, I would send it back. Obviously the flaws upset you enough to post about them so you will notice them as long as you own it. Good Luck.

Just my 2 cents.

Chris

Yeah, I guess that I'm just really upset that I've been waiting a month or so since I first saw it online and when I got it, it was flawed. But it's a Unlucky 13 that lives upto having been unlucky. And anyways, thanks for everyone's input.

Send it back...
So far u are the only person in the forums complaining of the paint on that guitar.
Don't be the only guy that paid full price for the only one that's messed up.
If it got out of the fender factory with imperfections, maybe it will do some good for others if fender gets it back...
I would look for altleast some sort of money back, maybe free extra strength Tylonol, or SOMETHING for my pain. geez lol
It might be worth it to send it back & get the new one in November.
If the new one in November is messed up, just move on to a different guitar. That's what I would do.

I got one yesterday....the 13 logo has the exact same issues as yours , however the rest of the guitar is fine and doesnt have the other issues you mentioned...I am not taking mine back. Tone is killer heavy if you want it to be.
