Saw the new Mustangs and Duo Sonics from Summer NAMM 2016.
lots or variations and colors.
Any clue when they're going on sale, or how much they will be?

I think Fender got it right this time with the new Duo-Sonics and Mustangs. The problem with the Mustang Special (Pawn Shop series) and Mustang American Special was that they were too expensive and were not bare bones enough. I can see people getting hold of these Duo-Sonics and Mustangs and having their way with them. The new Mustangs also have the normal body shape unlike the Pawn Shop Special (MIM and MIJ) which had a slightly different offset to the regular Mustang. I owned a '65 Mustang Reissue and that was one of my favorite guitars I've ever played. So I'm kinda hoping the Mustangs still have that jangle even without the Mustang tremolo. You can get a Squier VM Mustang for a little less so I could see why Fender tried to go with a hardtail again. The P90 Mustang is pretty cool and seems to resemble a G&L Fallout. I still would try this new offering from Fender over the Squier or G&L. I've had much better luck with Fender (MIM) over anything Made In Indonesia. The Duo-Sonics are pretty cool as well. The Duo-Sonic HS kinda looks like a Jag-Stang so I could see that selling well even if it is not my cup of tea. ATM the only sound clip on You Tube is from some one playing the Duo-Sonic single coil version and I'm very impressed with the sound. The single coil pickups are stratocaster type pickups which means what? I don't know.

My only gripe with Fender the past couple years has been the far off release dates. If I could order a Olive Mustang now I would! Come 3 or 4 months who knows? I wonder if there is a reason for this marketing?

Cool. Thx.
Heard no mentionin any of the release dates in any of the videos.
The cost looks good too.
I have one of the Chinese Modern Player Mustangs. The P 90's are great, but will most likely be looking for either with the Strat p/u with the maple.

There's also a Mustang Bass with a PJ configuration.

How do you like the Modern Player Mustang?

I don't think I can wait for them to release these and need a new guitar.

I really like it a lot. The P-90's sound amazing. Putting the pickups out of phase is really cool too. Produces a completely different sound. The Trem takes a bit of monkeying with to get it to stay in tune but works well once it's set up correctly. I'd def recommend if you can find at a good price.

yes, I know guitar companies switch around features all the time.
And yes my Les Paul has been modded and I still call it a Les Paul.
And I am not in the market for a Mustang either.

Yes the idea of a Mustang with P-90s does intrigue me--and could tempt me.
Yes they still have the Mustang body shape--and I love playing my Mustang.

However they don't have the phase switches or the vibrato (not tremolo as is often said-the Mustang had the word "Vibrato" stamped onto the tailpiece.)
Yes, I know a lot of people don't like the switches--and many re-wire their Mustangs to make them simpler.
And many block the vibrato & many complain of tuning problems.

But those are two of the things that attracted me to the Mustang-two of the main reasons I bought one many years ago (It is a late 70's model--that I bought years later.)

Yes, it's their company and they can do as they want--but to me they are more like a variation of the Duo-Sonic if they don't have the vibrato, and just another solidbody with a normal toggle switch. (& yes my other electrics have that toggle switch)

If I ever have to replace my Mustang I would want somehting like the original, not this new thing.

But if it's your thing--go for it.

I won't go as far as to say don't buy it--I'm not like that. if they appeal to you--go for it.

but I felt a need to vent a bit & express some disappointment.

Carry on...

These four MIM hot-rodded short-scale oldies are finally listed in the products' page.

Unfortunately the URL for the 2016 Limited Edition Jazzmaster with Bigsby (the last of the Magnificent 7 guitars) redirects to a broken link (HTTP 404).

I'd buy the HS Duo Sonic right now if it came with a maple board. And yes the new Mustangs are basically Duo Sonics with a big headstock. Cool but not a Mustang.

I bought a Mustang 90 in olympic white, another one in torino red, and a Duo-Sonic HS in Daphne blue. I also purchased an olympic white Mustang PJ bass. I love all of them. I demoed the Mustang in olive with the maple board and regular single pickups and wasn't as impressed with that one because the pickups were too wimpy. Particularly the bridge pickup. The maple board felt weird to me (used to rosewood) so I returned it rather than changing the pickups to make it better. They are all sweet but there is a serious lack of shielding paint in them. There is none in the control cavity or under the switch areas. I will be painting more shielding paint in those areas, making sure to bring it up over the lip to make proper contact with the plate. I will also add a full sheet of shielding foil on the back of the pickguard as well. I will upgrade the jacks to Switchcraft and then it will be perfect until the switch would need replacing. At the price these are all selling for, there is no disappointment found at this price. Add some time and shielding and you'll definitely be happy.

Hello guys! I recently got my new Fender Duo Sonic HS. It is an amazing guitar. Very versatile. I would not change anything about this axe. Maybe, the single coil split position on the humbucker is not that disticnt and sharp as it is on telecasters and strats, but for me personally, that is not a problem. Guitar feels great in hands. It handles distortion very well. To me, I would rate it 10/10.
I made a short sound test, so you can form your own opinion on this beauty, here's the link:

I also have a Duo-Sonic HS, in surf green. After 3 weeks I can say I do love this guitar. It is very well made with very nice fret work, no sharp or jagged edges.

I usually play a Strat so the strings felt very stiff at first, but I am getting use to it.

I do not like the sweep on the volume pot, there is a point when it jumps up very quickly. I looked under the pick guard and as I suspected it has mini pots and replacing it with a CTS pot will most likely require removing some wood. Might do it some day but not now.

Anyway, for a $500.00 guitar you can not go wrong.

Hi, my name is Ted and this my first post here.
I have a new 2016 Duo Sonic. They come with Fender standard tuners and I'd like to
replace them with vintage style tuners. The hole diameter is (approximately) 10mm, and the distance from the center of the high E hole to the low E hole is (approximately) 123mm.
Can anyone recommend replacement vintage style tuners that'll fit on the new duo sonics? Thx!

I wanted to make a follow up post to this thread of what I decided to do.

I bought a Squier VM Mustang and honestly couldn’t be happier. It reminds me a lot of my old Modded ’65 Mustang RI. So I think I made the right choice.

I really wish Fender did something “special” with these offsets. Like bringing back the Mustang Pawn Shop Special and adding a Telecaster bridge and calling it a Mustang “Custom”. I really hate the Fender hardtail they use. I have a ’72 Telecaster Deluxe that I have a hard time getting along with because of those. I honestly would prefer a Telecaster Custom but I have never found a decent sounding one besides a vintage one that was not in my price range. (Rambling but you get the point…)

I would of preferred if they would of sold them for $399 and did a straight up Squier Duo-Sonic Reissue. Actually those Classic Vibes they did a few years ago sound pretty damn good.
