Hi guys,
I've managed to snag an authentic 1962 jag for pretty cheap. It's a refinish, but I need help determining if the refinish was done by some random guy in a garage or if it was a Fender custom color refinish. Obviously, refinish custom color jobs performed by Fender are worth more.

What i've determined so far... The Good :
- The color best matches what seems to be fender's 'surf green' offering
- The body does indeed have nail holes in the exact spots that fender would have placed them in order for them to perform a custom paint refinish
- The refinished paint job is definitely old. The entire body's paint is 'checked' horizontally , correct for a guitar this old.
- The 'paint stick' shadow is present in the neck pocket , matching Fender's standard procedure for performing refinishes.
- The matching headstock is almost flawless. Almost too flawless to be done by an amateur ? The headstock decal perfectly placed and period correct.

The not so good:
- The color is vibrant!! almost too vibrant ??
- Slight overspray in the cavities.
- I'm not seeing any fender-made pencil or stamp markings on the body.

Any help or info would be appreciated!! thanks guys

The nail holes would be present no matter if the paint is original or a re-fin. Frankly, it looks like the original Fullerton-applied Duco Custom Color or perhaps a factory re-spray with the same Surf Green shade sometime later on (a common occurrence).

Congrats -- it's a gorgeous specimen.

This probably can't be confirmed either way...

Two things IMHO speak for non-Fender refin:
The checking in the paint points to old refinish, so one would expect to see some "pairing" marks in the body and neck.
And something in the headstock edge plus the decal outline is a bit weird (pic #22).
Noting: neither of these gives 100% certainty.

Anyway, I agree with previous: it's a gorgeous guitar, and whoever did the refin, did a good job.
