Hey there,

I'm in the market for a left handed Jazzmaster.
Since I'm a lefty it's a little hard for me to find the guitars that I want.
Luckily a store near me is ordering a bunch of left handed Jazzmasters.
Since it's a pre-order and I can't test them I was wondering what the difference in quality is between guitars MIA and CIJ. And are they worth paying around $1000 for?
Thanks.

I would say it's a toss-up. Every Fender-Japan instrument I've ever examined has been a top-notch guitar in most respects. Fit, finish, and set-up is generally flawless. The only aspect of the Fuji-Gen products I take issue with concerns the electronics. Some of their pickups are fine but the pots, switches, and jacks belie the qualities of an otherwise great guitar and you may find yourself replacing everything "under the hood" with US-made equivalent components. However the MIJ JM's and Jag's I've handled looked and felt really good and I doubt you'll be disappointed in that regard. OTOH the MIA instrument will feature better electronics and, possibly, a better grade of hardware. And IIRC, the Corona-made guitars usually ship in a hard-shell case instead of a sleazy gig bag (or nothing at all).

I pretty much agree with everything above.
On Japanese Fenders (MIJ&CIJ) I only have good experiences, starting from the eighties. The Japanese Jazzmasters; loved each and every one I've played. One reminder: the JM in general, regardless of the country of origin, is one of Fender's "high maintenance" models, meaning the setup needs to be perfect.

The price should of course be compared to the area where you live in - and the lefty models probably cost a bit over the average.

But I'd like to know a bit more on that shop and their Jazzmaster order, since there's been a lot of rumours about Fender Japan.

One hint: I prefer Jazzmasters with the trem lock button - they leave that off in the lower priced models.

+1

This feature seems to enhance tuning stability.
