There's one at my LGS - seriously considering it.
Does anyone here have opinions/experience with this model?
I'm not much of a Nirvana fan, but it looks like a quality guitar with a great humbucker in it (which I need right now). I also think the shorter scale and somewhat smaller size will make it a good guitar for my kids (who are learning on a 3/4 squier strat at present) to transition to.

My main concern is the bridge - will it still hold tune even if I don't use the tremolo? I have no experience with Mustangs, especially that new Adjusto-matic bridge.

I don't know that specific model, but generally on the Mustang vibrato:
As any trem/vibe, it can and must be adjusted to work properly - but that's relatively easy on an M-Vibe.
(A side remark: a lot of trem/vibe problems are nut related.)

You can adjust the vibe stiff by moving the springs to the bottom grooves on the posts, and lowering the "cigar bar" all the way down. Remove the vibe arm and voilà: you have an "almost-hardtail".

I have a few of them. They stay perfectly in tune, until you use the whammy which I never did. These are my favourite guitar by miles, the neck is quite thin so if you've got massive hands you may have trouble with picking. The humbucker sounds absolutely awesome. The mustang pickup sounds very 'Fender'ish' - like a tele.

IMHO, there's nothing basically wrong with the Mustang vibrato, so my question is: are your guitars set up properly?
Right vibe tension for the string gauge you use, properly cut nut slots, all contact points checked, fixed and lubed, etc.

Great guitar if you can find one now. I have 4 and I love them to death. The frets are vintage and thin. The short scale is great for someone with small or average sized hands. The neck is comfortable and the pickup screams! I don't touch the tremelo at all and it stays perfectly in tune. It seems to still be on Fenders website but looks like all the stores are sold out. I'm not sure if it will still stay in production but I bet they will make a new batch as its a great seller.

I contacted Fender. They will not be making any more of these. There are no new LH ones anywhere, worldwide hence why the price on the used market is rocketing. A Lake Placid Blue left handed one sold for $3100 the other day - I couldn't believe it.

Wow...I figured they would do another run of these because they are popular. Are you sure they are discontinuing these because the KC Mustang page on Fender.com looks like it's been updated with more pictures. The last time I looked at it there was only one picture of the guitar and now they have multiple pictures up.

Hello, this is my first post on the forum.
I recently acquired a lefty Cobain Mustang. I personally love it and have no idea why everyone seems to have a problem with tuning. If you want to let the trem float, it's going to be hard to get it right. That's true of any model that doesn't involve using an allen key to change strings. If you setup the guitar correctly and lower the trem bar to its lowest possible setting without pinching the strings, it stays perfectly in tune. My only problem with it is the tiny screw that holds the trem arm in place doesn't have the rubber nub on it like the originals in the 60's. This can make it easy for the arm to fall out if you prefer to leave it hanging low and I haven't found a solution for this yet.
