Thanks for posting that. I've got two, a Fender Lead II and a Lead III, both are completely stock save for the saddles on the Lead II which I had to replace with the narrow Allparts version due to pitting after years of use. My Lead II is the sweetest $@!&* around (she's gonna need a fret replacement soon) and the Lead III can growl like a dog, perfect for Joan Jett/AC/DC tunes. Hell I'm 52 and remember when the Fender Lead guitars first came out, they were snubbed even after Eric Clapton used one, nobody wanted them thus prices fell on the second hand market, try and find one now and you'll pay through the nose.

The saddest thing is so many Lead I's Lead II's and Lead III's (their production numbers were small compared to other models) have been cannibalized not for their pickups but for their necks, the slimmest, thinnest necks ever produced by Fender, nothing manufactured since even comes close. If you're lucky to nab an early Korean Squier II Strat, an "S" or an "E" series, you may be lucky enough to get one that has a leftover "Lead Series" neck.

I got my first lead when I was 15 in 1980. Of course I tore it up, put a Kahler trem and a Strat jack in the body. When eBay was new I searched forever for clean ones. After several purchases and reselling I found a clean example of each model. I had them refretted and bone nut cut. I removed the original pickguard assemblies for storage and installed a single Seymour Duncan JB model and volume on each. About a year ago Zak, who is a huge Fender fan, came over to check them out and loved them. Being young, he had never heard of the Lead series. I let him borrow all three. In his down time from touring with SycAmour he made these vids. He plays the s**t out of them. Kids these days are so talented.

He sure is. Lot of good music around if you can find it. I bookmarked him so I don't lose him. Thanks. :D

I'm into them... I bought a Lead 2 about a year ago, and frankly it's just a great guitar. That neck pickup on there is just about one of the most wonderful and rich sounds that I've heard from any guitar.

I'm thinking about picking up a Lead 1 soon. Collect 'em all!

LOL! Sorry about that part. It's the world we live in...he took requests. At least he rocks it a bit. I am old school Megadeth Pantera myself.
