Hello, I just purchased a 2010 Telecaster!
I can't wait for it to arrive.
Trying to clarify the actual color of my Tele.
Advertised as Candy Cola, however based on checking the Internet, it appears to me to be Crimson Red.
Can somebody familiar with Fender colors please confirm for me the "real" color it is?
Thank you.

Candy Cola is not that transparent; the "candys" have an undercoat (silver, gold) which hides the wood grain, then the finish coat which lets the undercoat sorta shimmer through, but just subtly.

My guess: it is Crimson Red Transparent, #38 on Fender color chart.

Thanks.
Yeah I thought it looked more transparent and not a solid candy finish.
Oh well it still looks good.

Candy Cola is an iridescent color, looking brown when viewed at an angle and red straight on.

But, judging by the reflections in the picture, it is from the Used Gear section of a Guitar Center. Which is worrisome; not because it's GC, but because I think it's a fair chance that they looked up the serial and put the color on the sales tag that the serial number matched. If so, the neck and the body are from two guitars, and you have a partscaster.
Plastic on the neck pickup for a guitar that's allegedly five years old is also a bit incongruous, and points at repairs or parts swapping. And the little I can see of the strap lock looks like a vintage one, while an American Standard should have come with locking ones.

What model did they sell this as, and how much did they want? If all legit American Standard in excellent shape and next to no fret wear, $950 including OHSC seems fair. If a partscaster, well, I wouldn't pay half.

Thanks for the warning.
They are selling as an American Standard for $799.
Yeah the plastic cover on the neck pick up caught my attention as well.
So when it arrives at my local GC, would it be appropriate for me to have them check under the neck to make sure everything is legit?
Is GC liable for selling me a parts job as an American Telecaster.
Your experience in these matters are very important right now for sure.
Thanks

$799 seems a fair price if the hard case and candy is missing, and it's all legit.

You should have a 30 day return policy at GC - but get it written down that you'll be able to return it without a restocking fee, because different stores handle this differently.

Checking the body neck pocket is a reasonable thing to do. Lifting the pickguard and checking what the pickups really are is another, especially since one of them has the plastic on it.
Neck fret wear is another. Drag the strings to the side, and look for grooves, especially around the third fret. If it looks like it needs it, you can likely talk GC into giving it a fret dress for free, especially if sold as "excellent" or "great" condition.

And note down the serial number and ask Fender tech support what it maps to. If Fender says Candy Cola and since this one obviously isn't, it means it's a partscaster, and GC should knock the price down accordingly. If they say Crimson Red, and everything looks legit, get GC to at least toss in a set of Schaller strap locks and pegs for free, because a 2010 AmStd is supposed to come with those.

Good luck - it might be a great guitar! Crimson red sure is eye catching :)

I doubt that Guitar Center would go to the trouble of contacting Fender for the serial number; I suspect they just went with what the first red color they found or with what the seller told them it was.

Also American Standards haven't had the locking strap buttons since at least 2003 (and probably since 2000 when the "American Series" came out). I've seen a lot of guitars these days with the plastic on the pickguard and the pickups - while removing it is the first thing I do once I've decided to keep a guitar it seems like people want to keep all the marketing stickers on them.

I was thinking this too and I looked up 2008-2010 American Telecasters (images) and Fender specs and I could not see that strap locks were included, just some Deluxes and specials I think.
You know I also thought that maybe the previous owner did not remove the plastic on the chrome neck pickup but why would you play this guitar with plastic on the pickup?
But who knows what people do right?
Well, anyway, you folks have given me plenty of things to look for and discuss when it finally arrives.
I'm hoping that everything works out.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks.

Yep, Crimson Red.
In real nice condition and it's legit!
Wasn't played much frets look clean.
Sounds good, love the silky neck, exactly like my Jeff Beck neck.
Here's a couple pics.
