Hello all...!

Today was happy guitar day for the most part as my ADE Vintage Tele finally arrived after 3 months of waiting. First I had to pry it out of the hands of FedEx who botched the delivery - I took the day off work and waited impatiently only to find a door tag since they couldn't be bothered to ring the doorbell or knock. FedEx customer service managed to intercept the driver and get the guitar to me by the end of the day though.

So I'm happy, right? Guitar is beautiful - fit and finish are great. I plug it in and it sounds fantastic until I select the middle or neck position then...nothing. Somebody bolloxed the wiring and it got past quality control. Now I'm gonna have to pack it over to the nearest Fender dealer (Guitar Center in this case) and leave it a few more days while they sort out the issues.

C'mon Fender - for nearly $2000 for a custom built guitar (paid in advance to boot) you can't bother to go the last mile and make sure it's right before it goes out the doors? I found this within 10 minutes of unboxing it.

And I was so looking forward to plying it this weekend...

I can relate.
I am so impatient in general and your scenario would drive me up the proverbial wall!
Hang in there pardner, just another hurdle to maneuver.
Like they say, Good things happen to those who wait! :D
I've never seen the Tele you purchased.
Make sure you post plenty of pictures.

Thanks for the good vibe Zippydog.

Just got back from visiting the local service tech - it's a dead short in the neck pickup. The tech was disgusted with Fender's QC process - his take was "...should have never made it out the door!" He'll call it in on Monday, get concurrence from his tech contact at Fender and get them to send me another pickup. Maybe 2-3 weeks and if it arrives around Thanksgiving, the local tech guy is headed out of town for a week so it may be the first week of December before I see it back home.

Good thing I have a few others to pick on while I wait, but this has been a fiasco. I'll post some pics once I have it back in hand.

Resolved...!

To finish up the story, the local tech contacted his part distributer who wouldn't break up a Noiseless p'up set to get me just a neck pickup. Best case, custom order to manufacturer to get the neck p'up and ETA of sometime in mid-December. This didn't sit well with me so I reached out to Fender.

Chase Miller from Fender customer relations worked with me and located a set of Noiseless Tele p'ups within the company that he then had 2nd day shipped to my local tech. I got the call this morning that it was all ready and I picked it up this afternoon. Been playing it pretty much non-stop since I got it home.

Also, I discovered that this Tele came with the S1 switching system which I overlooked during the ordering process so that was a nice surprise.

All in all I'm happy to have it home even if I had to wait a few additional weeks. Kudos to Chase and Ken for their work!

Glad you got it straightened out but your initial thoughts are mine too. One would think that on a guitar like that there wouldn't be an issue. Should have been caught during the set up and final inspection procedure.

See, didn't I tell you that everything would work out.
All you needed was a little patience.
Now, how about those photos you promised :)

Zippydog - you did indeed. :D

However, patience has never been my long suit. When presented the additional delay it just flew all over me and my first thought was "Oh, hell no!"

Pictures are forthcoming - just need to post them where I can access them from here.

FYI - I mentioned that I had overlooked the fact that the pickup package I selected included the S1 switching system. According to Fender, from the factory on the Tele the S1 really only works in the middle selector position to pair up the bridge and neck p'ups in series for a beefier tone - with the selector in the neck or bridge position it's supposed to have no effect. However my new buddy Ken who did the warranty work appears to have tinkered with the wiring so that I get the S1 series effect in those positions as well. When engaged, the p'up in the bridge position with a cranked amp emits some really snarling tones - a distinct improvement in tone, sustain and gain akin almost to some kind of hybrid humbucker. When disengaged you get the snappy Tele single coil bark you'd expect. Same is relatively true in the neck position - engaged, the S1 provides a dark mournful howl while disengaged you get fat bluesy tones with some rasp.

I'm gonna have some fun this weekend...
