So I had a MIM 2007 Fender Classic Player 50s strat with 2-tone sunburst that I modernized with a SD lil pearly gates bridge, and 2 tx specials, treble bleed kit, american saddles, sperzel tuners and blocked trem, pearl guard, etc. The problem I found is that by not leaving it stock, it made it much harder to get rid of with guitar players going back to their roots and wanting things as close to vintage and original as possible. So I listed it for a trade on craigslist and received a response next day. I was offered a MIM tele with lil '59 bridge and twang king neck pickup. Jumped all over it with that sexy rosewood board. I wanted a nice throaty bite with my overdrive. My only reservation is the mighty mite neck with watermark logo. This guitar plays phenomenal and sound just as good, but without a serial# there is no way to know if it is really a MIM. Any indications or characteristics on the body or parts I can be assured of this fact? Thanks.

Also I had a Gretsch Electromatic G5120 in black that I wanted to unload. I was going to install a roller bridge and roller nut, pin the bridge, install new tuners, and eventually filtertron pickups, then I figured this guitar was going to be more trouble than it was worth and that it doesn't fit my playing style (although I'll miss the bigsby), so I also listed it for trade on craigslist and was offered this gorgeous white 2009-2010 MIM standard tele with upgraded noiseless pickups which sound better than I thought they were going to.

All this within a week of each other. I finally captured my unicorn...TWICE. Been playing for 17 years and modded the $@!& out of that strat chasing a tele tone. I'm one HAPPY camper.

Parts: It has the sideless bridge tray that's used on MIMs, but that doesn't really say much, as far east models also have that.
Body: Remove the pickguard, and look where the hole that the CNC machine grabs it with is. That's in a different location on MIMs, and for newer ones, there are actually three holes.
While there, check that the pickup cavities have been painted with conductive paint, and that there are screws from the ground wire of the pickups to the paint. (Although I have seen one MIM Tele where the paint was missing, but the screws were still attached...)
You can also remove the neck and look for signatures in the heel cavity. If there are none, that's a good sign that it could be fake.

I have one just like it - white on white too. I switched the pickups for N3s, and strap locks to Schaller. It has become one of my two goto guitars, and at under $400 including new pickups, I'd rather bring out that one than my more expensive guitars.

Thanks, I did see some signatures in there and it has the 3 holes under the guard with the powdery conductive paint. I need to shave the headstock because the guy did a crap job with the watermark logo and clear nail polish over it. It's chipping off anyway. I may just leave it blank. It's got such chunky yet twangy tone, I really love it.

nothing like some tele love!!

if you think you'll be missin a bigsby,, get a vibrate kit and add one to one of them sweet lil tele's that just followed you home.

Easy to do, and no permanent mods to anything with the Virbramte. I added one to my 95 les paul standard, and it was easy and works a treat..

check out their website, (google Vibramate)

stewmac.com has the combo kits for what you would be needing.. (vibramate w/the corresponding USA made bigsby)

I'm tempted to send one in for a G bender.
