HI everybody! This is my first post! Unfortunatley the reason is that I just purchased a used Telecaster from Guitar Center. It has the Serial number MN1103306. (I dated this to 1991) The color is Lake Placid Blue. My issue is that after I opened the control plate I was surprised to find small pots and a Green Tracton cap in it. This leads me to believe that the guitar body is a Squire and the neck is Mexican. It sounds good but I just don't want to pay a premium for a unoriginal guitar. I think the person put his neck on a Squire body and sold it to GC.

Notes:
No Strings through body
E- is stamped on the neck cavity
No Fender designation on either neck plate or Bridge
cheap electronics
circle jack mount
500K Tone and Vol pots

I can email pics but have no way to host them. Is there any tell tale signs that I can use to make sure this guitar is legit? Thanks in advance for any responses!

I'm a little confused.
1. Going by the SN# sound like a MIM.
2. No through body strings whole? The only time that I've seen that is the Tele Elite, the appox. '83 tele to cut cost (both short lived teles from the 80's) and a tele with a Bigby vibroto (still in production).
As to the pots usually they use 250K pots. I would love to see pictures of this guitar.

I hope this info helps.

I have seen some early 90's tele's with no strings through the body.

It is sad that GC did not inspect the instrument more closely, to insure that it was not tampered with.

If I were you, I would try to take it back. Even if they only give you an in-store credit, your next purchase could be a new one. Then you will know for sure that you have a MIM tele.

Good luck,
