I walked into a local Pawn shop yesterday and there is a Blackguard Butterscotch Tele sitting there and it looks crazy good !
Long story short it was a Classic Vibe Squier and it felt perfect in my hands, strummed it and the whole thing resonated like wild, had to have it !
The poor thing was missing a jack cup (output jack) and had a dent on the upper edge so I thought ah negotiating leverage 8)
They were asking 199 with fender go bag, i walked out with it for 148 including tax

Got home and installed the only jack cup I had from a 1960's Bassman speaker cab LOL doesn't work real well but it will work till the Electrosocket I ordered shows up.

How does it sound and play ??? STUPID GOOD !!! 150 bucks should never sound this good seriously !
For the price of a decent pedal and it looks too cool.
Not even gonna remove the Squier headstock logo as it looks great too and they deserve serious Kudos for this Tele

He shoots, He Scores! Nice looking guitar and for $150 you just can't go wrong! And if you are digging the tone, then it must be pretty darn good! Thanks for the post.

Guys I'm shocked at the quality of this guitar !
It is however considerably heavier than my Ash AMSE Strat.
I am getting all the Tele sounds you could want and again the price was too good to pass up even for parts.
I think these have been out since 2008 and this is the first time i picked one up, USA , MIM Snob I guess LOL
Do yourself a favor and give one a test run.

The discoloration in the lower left is my reflection not the guitar

I think my 50th AMSE has found a friend !

They are not bad at all. I almost bought one new and they do hold there value well for a squire.

I think it's too early to judge the quality of a guitar after just a couple of days. Give it a few years, at least!
Also keep in mind that the previous user might have corrected any immediate quality issues, like sharp fret ends, burrs on string trees, tuner and bridges, bad pots, or pinching nut grooves. It's not completely uncommon that a used guitar is in better shape than when it left the factory.
I'm not saying that there were quality issues when it was new; I don't know, but neither do you.

Anyhow, it's a lot of guitar for the money, and if it plays well and keeps up, it should make you happy for a long time. Squiers can certainly be decent guitars. Nobody should scoff at a guitar because it says Squier, Epiphone, G&L Tribute, ESP LTD, Ibanez GIO or PRS SE. They can be surprisingly good, and made with modern manufacturing processes that can by far exceed the variable quality of "premium" products of the past.

It has full size pots which I believe is standard on these and asian PC board type three way switch
and is in need of a jack cup, again on the way, i'm going to use the electrosocket type due to how stable the last few tele's output jacks were using this very cool device.

As far as frets , I can just see a tiny bit of wear on the playing surface and absolutely zero fret sprout on the sides, also no signs of filing or sanding on the side finish, pretty darn sure its factory fresh there.

The alnico 5 pickups have nothing to be ashamed of, they sound excellent through my Silverface Super Reverb (see thread on Vintage amps here).

If you see one used and can get it, trust me don't let it get away !!! You could play with the Rolling Stones and use this Guitar and no one would know.

I did replace the oversize black strap buttons with some nice vintage nickle ones.

My wife and daughter got home from an out of town trip and said the pictures don't do it justice, I agree

Hi there,
Nice example! I bet if that was a AVRI 52 reissue someone would have already commented about the nice top of the body, very nice figured ash! Is that a top veneer or not?
Played one once, I was really impressed with the tone and feeling. Eventually I went for a Baja Tele instead, crazy horse Tele and what a cracking guitar!!!
She rings like crazy!

I would never have thought Pine could be a decent wood for a guitar body, and then I tried a couple of these (both the butterscotch blonde and the white blonde) out in a store.
They're great guitars!

It's only since then I've heard about Pine having been used by Fender for development guitars.

I have the exact same model. Very nice tones and playability, once adjusted*

I've had some neck stability issues with the neck relief lessening. *I've had to adjust mine at least 5 or 6 times in a year and a half. I do set it up with very low action, so this really renders it unplayable until re-adjusted. I keep hoping that it will eventually stabilize.

Also, the chrome plating on mine has discolored in a major way, and polishing helps, but doesn't totally restore it.

It is a great sounding guitar despite these issues I've had. I also put in the 4 position switch mod which adds one more tone, a pseudo humbucker.

So my son and his family come over last night and I have him plug in the Tele (through my Silverface Super Reverb) and he is playing through a half dozen classic rock tunes, looks up and says "its like a perfect guitar for all of these songs"
He played some Rush, Kansas, Pink Floyd, AC/DC and with a little tweak of the three way switch was able to cover all of them very well ! Sounded Great actually.
