Hey guys! I need help. Is this tele the real deal or is it a fake? I can see its had some mods: humbucker, mini switch, 6 bridge saddle, and replaced input jack. But the neck plate, bridge plate, and screws look pretty legit. Any help would be great! Thanks!

You have a genuine fake there.

Could you elaborate or give any specific reason as to why it is real or fake?
Thanks

There's the tiny issue of no appropriate decals on the headstock.

12th fret dot markers are wrong. The spacing is not correct.
The serial number isn't where it should be.
The serial number on the neckplate indicates later than the pickguard appears to show. Even so, the serial number shouldn't be where it is.
There are the wrong number of screws holding the pickguard on.
Why are there two unmatched string trees?
The screws for the pickup selector switch are wrong.

Do you want me to carry on?

Have you got any pictures of the back of the headstock? It would be interesting to see what someone has installed poorly (the tuners are not installed straight).
It would also give an indication of the existence of a previous set of tuners, and it should be easy to see if they're appropriate.

It would also be good to see if there's a hole or socket on the body edge where the cable normally plugs in.

That's a bit of a mess. See how the neck screws, or the holes drilled, have come up through the fingerboard!

The hardshell case appears to be real.

And what's the deal with those saddles? They are all crooked and it doesn't look like there would be room for all 6 if they weren't. Drilled new holes and squeezed 6 saddles into a 3 saddle bridge or for some reason just decided to take off the right ones and put wrong ones on? At least the bridge has a Fender stamp on it.

What was the purpose of relocating the jack? Is so close to the tone pot you would almost have to use an angled plug to keep it out of the way when reaching for the tone knob.

I am not so sure. It is a mess for sure and modified to the hilt and had body and neck refin...but not everything stratmangler said was accurate.

The neck plate serial number is in the correct spot and corresponds with the dot spacing of the neck (mid 50's ish). From '50 to '54 the serial number was on the bridge plate and then moved to the neck plate throughout the course of '54. The serial number is on the plate correctly space wise and the number fits the '55 or so era.

Maybe the penciled in date is still on the end of the neck, but without pics to verify you'll never know for sure.

Yes the headstock does not have a decal, replaced tuners, and has an added string tree, but that don't make it a fake...just a modified guitar at this point albeit a refinished one.

The bridge plate was changed, very common mod in the 70's, along with the mini humbucker at the neck. Curious if the hole is still on the body where the chord plug was since it was moved to the control plate which has also been modified. Also the pick guard looks to be of the right material, but the extra screws are odd as that material doesn't tend to warp much...but they are also slot heads...no since the 50's has Fender used those...might have been the first mod?

The case is not original, old yes, but does not appear to be a Fender issued one.

Without having it in hand, I couldn't say for sure it is a fake. Partscaster? Maybe. The mods ruin any value it might have had in it's original state. My guess is this was a working musicians guitar and the guy thought he was pretty handy at repairs/mods as some of them are certainly there for a particular taste.

That's my take on it.
