I have a 2015 Standard Telecaster and I am replacing the tuners with locking tuners. When I did a search in the forum for locking tuners I got 2k plus responses. I wanted to know what everyone is using. I was looking at going back with the Fender ones (p/n 0990818100) any pro`s / con`s on them. Thanks..

I used the Fender Deluxe Locking tuners on my 2013 American Standard Tele - I wasn't having tuning issues; I just like them for quick string changes because for whatever reason I always get overlapped winds on the plain strings with the standard tuners.. They were drop-in replacements; they should also be drop-in replacements for MIM Standards.

They work really well; no issues whatsoever with them.

I'm assuming that, like me, you just want these for convenience. If you're having tuning issues on your Tele, I would look for other causes before I swap out the tuners.

I own 2 telecaster , American Standard and '52 reissue ( made in USA ) . I use their own tuners , they work well.

If you don't need quick string change, keep them .

Locking tuners are useful not just for quick string changes, but because they allow you to tune down to correct pitch.

With regular tuners, you generally need to tune down past the point you want, pull the string taut, and tune up to the correct pitch, because of the give in the string that's looped around the post. With locking tuners, there should be less than one loop, and no give.
Another advantage is that the gear ratio tends to be lower, making fine tuning easier.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it's easier for some strings to come loose with Fender/Schaller locking tuners, especially with heavy gauges. "Finger-tight" will not hold a .024 G-string (from a .012 set) in place securely; it needs to really be screwed in tight. It's mainly a problem with the G string because it's the thickest slick string.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks everyone for your information. After reading your reply's I will probably just stay with the stock ones. They have not given me any problems. I have never had locking tuners and thought I might try them. My friende that do like them a lot, I guess the ol saying "If it aint broke don`t fix " it applies here. ..... Now for the pick up upgrade question..........haha....just kidding ... Thanks a ton everyone for your responses. JT.
