I always wanted to find a decent-sounding Tele.
I eventually found a Squier Thinline Tele that came with single-coils.
I modified it to where it now has a humbucker in the bridge.
It has a very clean sound that only need some beefiness to it.

I've always been a Strat-driver, but the Tele sits differently, sort of like a Les Paul will, the shorter body lets it hang closer to your body.
If you can get past the usual need for a closer volume pot to do volume swells or the use of a trem, you'll do just fine without them.
My guitar is almost too pretty to play, but it is made to be used.
Its a keeper.

I just rebuilt a MIM Thinline in Lake Placid Blue, maple neck and pearl pickguard. For pickups, I went with D'Marzio Area T's. They are hum canceling, but still have that Tele spank! It's wierd playing a Thinline becuase it is so light.
