In terms of, and excuse my casual phrasing, "Bang for Buck" is the Baja tele the Best Way to get a vintage modern guitar without starting warning alarms in your local bank?

I Purchased my Baja a year ago. I personnaly love blonde, but am not to keen on the Dark Yellow colour of the Butterscotch offered, so I went for desert sand. I then went on ebay and bought a 5-hole blackguard and an ashtray cover. It now looks simlar to the G.E Smith telecaster. Absoluetly stunning! I was feeling rather smug:wink: with my purchase.....

I then fitted a set of Elixir 10-52s and plugged it in to my Blues deluxe, Iwas in guitar players heaven. The neck is chunky but not uncomfortable, the body was heavy but did not cause any back-mucsle spasims. The neck pickup is nice and fat sounding, but had all the jangle it stayed clear and clean with no hint of muddynes. The bridge pickup has an unusual but beautiful sound. It's very promenent in the midrange , and has a nice "nazal" top-end. Very similar sound to that of the broadcaster, adding in some overdrive gives a MEATY and very naughty growl !

In terms of quality I was very impressed. To me and my experience with wood work and furniture making, maple is maple and ash is ash. I will not argue that there is a difference in higher quality of ash and maple, but these qualities will be very hard to hear between mexican or americain. The main difference is the wiring, and lets face it, will make no difference to the listening audience. But that isn't a very relavant comment!

I have played and owned Many fender guitars, and I can feel very confident in sayig that i am just as happy with this as i would be with an americain vintage telecaster costing about $1800, even thogh it may not have a nitro finish like an americain! I find the fact that some will turn up there nose at this cute little peace of design perfection, because it says 'made in mexico' on the back and out of sight, slightly depressing. Though I would never consider calling someone a snob for wanting an americain made fender over a mexicain, I think it is a shame that this wonderfull axe does not get the credit it really deserves!

Thanx for reading and i hope this has helped any guitarist out there in anystress and bother.......

Peace

I have a desert sand Baja and love the sound. I do find it's a lot more
temperament than my other guitars. It is affected more by humidity and hence screws up the intonation - my Strat for instance, isn't bothered by
anything and they are both kept in the same room. It's always a bit of a
mystery when I pick up my Tele - but I still love it !!

I was hoping to find a post about the Baja Tele. I finally played one at my local dealer here in Tulsa, OK, and was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent feel and sound. The one I played was the desert sand variation, and I thought it was a great look. With intonatable saddles, the Baja Tele may one the best new inexpensive Teles ever.

I'm glad that you're still diggin' yours. They are fine guitars, IMO.
