Got this Tele from a friend and not too sure what it is. Serial no. DZ5075436. Looks like the bridge p/u and the S1switch have been swapped if I got it right. Serial no. says it's a 2005, but it has the 60 medallion on the neck also. Also has black binding.Image

Hi

Its a Fender American Deluxe Telecaster USA made DZ was the serial prefix for these guitars at the time. Probably early 2006 as it has the 60th anniversary button on it. The serial numbers usually change around March.

Hope this helps

Well in 2006 they were changing the serial numbers out in January, but of course they were also assembling with necks that were finished and decaled in late 2005. If it was assembled after January 1, 2006 then Fender added that medallion to the back of the headstock.

Also this appears to be an FSR model made in early 2006 - it's an ash body but it has top binding and tummy cut; the 2004-2009 "regular" version of the American Deluxe Ash Tele didn't have the binding or the tummy cut (and in fact the American Deluxe Ash Tele didn't get the tummy cut until roughly March of 2012 - the same time the American Standards got the tummy cut).

Thanks for the info. Was wondering about the "FSR" because it just didn't match anything in particular.

By the way, John C, how did you know it had the tummy cut? Just curious what gave it away.

I've seen photos of the back of this particular model - it was the only American Deluxe done in butterscotch blonde with black binding. It should have the tummy cut on the back - it was supposed to the same body carve as the alder bodied American Deluxes.
