This is my late 60's early 70's rosewood tele. I've owned it for about ten years. I've done some research on it but can't quite nail the year, tell if the pickups are original or if the pickguard is original. It does have two flaws, it had a bigsby on it and a route for a neck humbucker. I think the finish is original. There is no date stamp on the neck or body. Pots both date to 1966 for what that is worth.

I'd also like to know a guess at value. I had a local shop offer to sell it for 9K after looking it over for a week. They thought it was an early 70's and were thinking the pickups were original. They were going to pull the copper plate on the bridge pu when I decided to take it back home. It plays and sounds great.

I'll take more photos if you want but there are a bunch more in the photobucket link. Thanks.

George Harrison rosewood telecaster !

http://www.feelnumb.com/2010/12/08/geor ... begley-jr/

Never see a Fender tele build like this one , the body look empty inside where is the control cavity and pickups.

Neck look to be a 1971 rosewood telecaster , decal is OK .
I have a picture from the book ; The Fender Telecaster , by A.R. Duchossoir page 42.

Pots are 1966 , neck back plate 1969. Why 3 years between both ?

Peg head must have one string "T "

The rosewood telecaster was also offered with a hollowed ( 3 Chambers ) body between 1971 and 1972

From " Electric Blue Book of guitar 5th Edition " ( 1998 ) , page 283

The serial number dates it to 1969-1970. On quick photo glimpse, looks about as it should.

Here's another from 1969, also with two string guides: gbase.com Rosewood Tele

The 9K$ might be close to the real value, considering the Bigsby episode etc; and you have to find the right buyer - someone wrote that rosewood Teles are "an acquired taste"...

Look too high , it is not mint with pickup cavity for a humbucker .

Note during 1966, CBS/Fender bought a huge supply of CTS pots. Because of this, many late 1960's Fenders have pots dated from 1966.

I found another one that had two string T's. The T's look the same vintage but who knows when they were put on.

They hollowed out the body after the first two were built for George Harrison. The original two were quite heavy. Mine is about 8 1/2 lbs. Looking at others that were mint that is normal. Here is one for pics of the cavity:

What indicates the neck is 1971?

Thanks. I knew I saw two string guides somewhere. It's a good sounding guitar, not too bright.

The filled in holes for the Bigsby is an eyesore like acne scars on a lady's face.
A good woodworker specializing in restoration might be able to do a better job at filling the holes, matching the colors better and recreating the woodgrain.
That might make it less of an eyesore, although it probably won't bump the value more than the costs of having the correction done.

Guess it depends on how hot she is. I've been playing on this guitar and it is pretty hot. Not an acquired taste at all, sounds like a tele, a great sounding tele and plays really well. I have a 1968 Super Reverb black line and used the same setting with my strat. May have to keep this one.

Anyone know what the value trend is for vintage guitars?
