The new American vintage reissue series are done in thin flash coat nitro, also many of the Custom shop teles are nitro.

Be careful what you wish for...

The Nitro finishes Fender uses today are Uber-Thin...

If you don't maintain a proper humidity environment for the Guitar, esp. during the Winter, you'll see your guitar's finish degrade noticeably in one season.

I suspect that Fender does this partly to accelerate the finish 'relicing' .

Not sure I'm a believer in the Nitro vs. Poly debate so far as improved sound is concerned, though admit this is subjective.

But I have found the modern Fenders w/ Nitro finish are much less robust than other guitars I own w/ Nitro... Martin, Heritage.

IMHO, owning 11 Guitars w/ mixed finishes, Poly is more appealing insofar as keeping them longterm.

cheers!

I'm a poly fan. It's easy and thick enough to rub out scratches that would ruin a nitro finish. Nitro didn't work well on automobiles or anything else in the past, it was just cheap and easy to apply, toxic, fast drying, easy touchup though seldom could get a good match. It's a nostalgia thing for those who don't remember, or forgot how bad it aged in a very short time.

Some of us do appreciate how a instrument finished in nitro ages naturally over time, and IMO of all the guitars I've owned in the last 30+ years (and it's been many) the nitro finished were the best to my ears. On the other hand if you are rough on your guitars/ subject them to extreme conditions, ect. it may not be your 1st choice.

That depends. What you can do with nitro that you can't easily do with poly is refinish.
I like having things maintained, not just aging. I re-paint my house when it needs it, and touch up my car's paint too if it starts looking ugly. And that's much easier done with a nitro finish, because new nitro bonds with the old, unlike poly where good spot fixes are impossible.
