Hi,

I'm keen to buy a second hand aged cherry burst and maple fingerboard 2005 American Deluxe Telecaster with serial DZ5082889. I would be the third owner but the second one and now seller has told me there are no papers or documentation going with the guitar and that he couldn't get it from the first owner because only Custom Shop Fender guitars have a certificate.

Could you please tell me anything about this guitar? Is it a real Fender Telecaster?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards.

Angel (Spain).

^^^^ I agree.

The seller is correct about documentation - about the only thing that would have come with a 2005 American Deluxe would be a hang tag with the serial number and inspection stamps. In all honesty a lot of dealers don't even keep those (or sometimes the original case gets separated from the guitar and you wind up with the right type of case and accessories "kit" but the wrong hang tag).

Very few production-line Fenders have certificates - just the AVRI '52 Tele (not every year, but there was a time period where they had a certificate) and some of the special run models.

Does the guitar you're looking at conform to the specs Fender sent you?

Hi,

it seems it does. I haven't had it in my hands, I only have seen some pics. I know for sure color it's just the same as specs tells but I'm a little bit lost at some other features like pickups if they are not easily recognizable. I think I can check nut width, bridge or S-1 switch but if you can tell me the one secret thing I could check in order to distinguish a real Fender from a Chinese copy or some useful rules to get those differences I would be very grateful.

Thanks again.

Best regards.
