Howdy. I might be making an offer on this guitar today. Please note that the original finish has been removed, which I'm well aware greatly reduces the value of the instrument.

I'm not sure if I can figure out to insert/imbed pics right into the thread. I'm a bit of a computer dummie, and this Forum has a different layout and interface than I'm used to seeing for imbedding photos.

Either way, here is the direct link

http://s28.photobucket.com/user/educate ... t=3&page=1

Someone please let me know if you have any problems with the link -- if is broken or won't take you to the album. There are 48 pics of the guitar over there. It is a 1967 model.

What would you pay for this guitar in its current condition? What's a fair and reasonable price?

Yikes! Really? That high? No offense but that seems like too much money for a post-CBS Tele with a stripped finish, but you guys are the experts.

Anyone else have a rough idea?

Thanks very much, stratele52.

Is a stripped finish is worst than low condition ?

There's two almost similar in ebay for about $5000 asking price (one is buy-it-now), both in good condition, and a third in excellent condition for about $7300, asking price.
IMHO this one should go for about half of those first ones, so max 2.5K$ is my suggestion. It's both stripped and in bad condition.

BTW, whoever is going to restore this Tele is facing a difficult job. The age and mileage should still show, but one shouldn't need a tetanus shot after every gig...

Haha, good one, J. Not just tetanus, but whooping cough, diptheria, shingles, runny nose and ear infection.

Nice pics!
It has Mojo oozing from from it, but it has had a hard life.
$2500 to $3000 - you can get some very clean guitars for twice that value.

Serial suggests it's '69/'70

I wouldn't buy a guitar out of the back of a van, just saying.
As for mojo, I'm not sure how much mojo is imparted by being stored improperly and not cared for.

As a player's guitar, I wouldn't give more than $500 for it. Anything above that is for people who don't want an artist's tool, but want to invest in it because of a perceived "historical value". Then all price bets are off, but I'd rather collect old paintings - at least they are nice to look at.

I don't think so. My '67 Tele has a 211xxx serial number.

JMattis:
Thanks for your input. Actually, I had a expert Fender luthier go through the guitar last week, and he says everything is original and in excellent condition. The only thing we're not sure about is the bridge. He also cleaned up the neck and the frets and it plays like a real champ now.

Appreciate your opinion.

Chris, thanks for your opinion. Sorry it too so long for me to get back to you. I had the inlaws in for a week for Christmas, and am now in recovery mode. That's right about where I think the pricing will fall.

On the serial number, etc. Everything points to 1967. I finally removed the neck and the stamp said 1967. The pots are dated 1966. And the SN fits Fenders range for 1967.

Personally, I'd rather buy a new MIM Tele, reliced if you're into that, spend $150.00 or less for some new pickups, and take a vacation in the Bahamas than buy that guitar....
....Just saying....
Otherwise, if I was determined to spend some real cash on a Tele I would buy a new '52 American Vintage or Custom Shop Tele.
You're not buying "Nancy" there.....

Thanks. Actually, it sold two weeks ago for $3300 cash.
