Hi,

I've just seen this Telecaster:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/FENDER-JAPAN-TEL ... true&rt=nc

I'm wondering about the area around the cable input. Is this another design? The wood around there is not formed on the usual way. Am I right? Is this something special? I'm a bit confused.

Thanks in advance,

Antoine

The TL-62B TX should have a normal jack plate, the metal round cup. That guitar has a plastic square one, looks like the ones used in Affinities. The bindings on that area look strange, too. Might have been dropped, and the jack replaced, who knows...

It's a 2006-2008 model (CIJ, S+six digits) with real good pickups. To my taste, and considering that jack plate, the price is already on the high side.

Also considering the $102.00 shipping cost.

cheers!

It's a pretty standard looking Japanese '62 Tele Custom. The jack mount has been replaced with what I suspect is a better mount.

When I built my Tele, I too went for the better mount. The ones Fender uses for the Tele are pretty crappy.

I love this jack mount so much that I replaced the Fender cup-type jack mount on my '51 P-Bass.

Yours is an Electrosocket, right? That is an upgrade.

The plastic one on the TL-62 for sale is, IMHO, a downgrade:

Yes, it is an Electrosocket. They are great. I wouldn't call the one on the that TL-62 a downgrade. It's better than the one that it came with. The Andy Summers Telecaster uses the same mount.

Check your pic again - the jack base plate is metal, not plastic, on that Andy Summers Tele.

I realize this. I was talking about the style of jackmount, not the material.

OK.
I've seen Affinities with a cracked base plate, that's why I don't trust plastic, and don't like that replacement on this guitar either. (Just as a remark: same applies if the tuners have a plastic knob.)

The Tele sold for $445 (plus $163 shipping), the total $603 is IMHO too much, but hope the buyer is happy with the guitar.

I guess you wouldn't like any Fender produced from the mid-60s till about '80. All the tuning buttoms were chromed over plastic.

Even disregarding the jack mount, i think this one is overpriced. There's a fair amount of fret wear, and the frets look so low that it might have been dressed once already, and still there are grooves.

Also, the bridge and tuner corrosion and pickup gunk might appeal to some, but I think it detracts from the value.

The four screw mount (made of metal) was standard on nearly everyone of the MIJ '62 Reissue Teles I have seen. The one I owned had it and it was a sturdier mount IMHO.
